The Beauty Picks: Best Beauty Sets for the Last-Minute Shopper

««Press Samples»»

Well guys, looks like I’ve done it again–I am always such a procrastinator when it comes to Christmas shopping! Every year, I vow that the next year will be different. And every year, I am stuck shopping late into the night a day or two before Christmas. What can I say? I never claimed to be the most punctual person (working on it!) but I figure I’m probably not alone (I hope!). So, I decided to put together a little holiday gift-guide for my peeps, detailing a few amazing gift sets that are currently available. Cuz you know, there’s nothing that’s more fool-proof and provides that instant “wow” factor like an easy-peasy gift set. :) So without further ad0, here is my 2013 Last-Minute Gift Guide for all the procrastinators out there!

REN Mini Rose Gift Set* ($27 at

Christmas time is really the best time to shop for amazing skincare sets, isn’t it? I go through so much body lotion/body wash/etc. that I spend a fortune replenishing each month, which is why I tend to stick with drugstore products. But the holidays are really the time that I like to splurge and indulge a bit with the nicer brands because you can find so many lovely sets available for such a steal. Take for instance REN’s Mini Rose Gift Set. This ridiculously gorgeous set comes with 3 of REN’s super popular Rose Otto products: the Moroccan Rose Otto Body Wash (50 ml.), Moroccan Rose Otto Body Lotion (50 ml.), Moroccan Rose Otto Bath Oil (30 ml.). And as a special treat, REN’s gift sets for Holiday 2013 come packed in beautiful boxes printed with their Moroccan Rose Otto Arabesque design, available in a variety of bright, punchy colors. Each magnificent little touch adds to the overall luxurious feel of the set. And of course the products aren’t too bad either…:P

For the true Moroccan Rose Otto experience, start with a warm, relaxing bath and add a few drops of the Rose Otto Bath Oil to the water. Soak for as long as you like. Then, apply the Moroccan Rose Otto Body wash to a shower pouff (or flannel, your hands, etc.) and wash away the dirt and grime of the day. The body wash creates a really rich, moisturizing, heavenly-scented lather. Post shower, when your skin is still warm and damp, seal all that beautiful moisture in with a layer of the Rose Otto Body Lotion. Et voilà! Not only will you have super soft, supremely hydrated skin but the layers of delicately Moroccan rose-scented products will leave your skin perfectly perfumed–no need for a separate fragrance! Now who wouldn’t want that?!

Lush Season’s Tweetings* ($59.95 at

In my opinion, there really is no “best time” to try Lush, since they always seem to have something fun and inspired to share for every season. Yet if I had to choose just one season for shopping Lush’s most awesome gift sets, it’d be Christmas time. At the moment there are about 24 incredible gift sets available on Lush’s site, and at every price point, too!–ranging from $8.95 to $89.95. Each set is packed with some of Lush’s best offerings and usually include one or more of their LE items.

Their Season’s Tweetings set includes 7 items: Buffy Body Butter, Celestial Moisturizer, Charity Pot Body Lotion, Noriko Soap (a new obsession of mine. I’ve literally been sleeping with it under my pillow because the scent is so intoxicating!), Peace Massage Bar, Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner (click here for my review), and Rose Jam Shower Gel (every bit as amazing as everyone says. So sad this one is LE). Each and every item is a real treat, meant to be savored. If you’ve never experienced that kind of bliss from skincare before, you need to get your hands on this set ASAP! edit: oh…this was meant to be a gift-giving guide, wasn’t it? I mean, get this for someone you love ASAP…and perhaps an extra for yourself? ;)

As an added incentive (as if you needed one!), $8.50 from every Season’s Tweetings set sold will be donated to Lush’s Charity Pot fund, which supports grassroots charities all over the world. AND the beautiful vintage-esque wrapping is made up of recycled t-shirts. How’s that for guiltless splurging?!

Paul & Joe Winter Creation 2013 Eye & Cheek Color Set in Gingerbread* ($65 at

Does anyone else wait with baited breath to see what new glorious, incredibly adorable gift set Paul & Joe comes out with each season–particularly Christmas? Last year, we saw them release the whimsical unicorn gift set (reviewed here). This year, it’s kittens!!! I know, I couldn’t contain my excitement either. :) This year’s P&J Holiday Creation 2013 gift set is an Eye & Cheek Color Set which includes the Blusher Stick G, Eye Color Duo D, Eye Gloss G, and an adorable makeup pouch adorned with kittens on a playful check print.

The Eye & Cheek Color set comes in 2 variations: 001 Sugar & Spice and 002 Gingerbread. Sugar & Spice features lovely, soft greens and golds while Gingerbread offers sweet, feminine shades. The Blusher Stick G is a sheer, light-medium rosy pink. In the Eye Color Duo pot, one side is a soft, shimmery baby pink and the other side is a light-medium, shimmery bronzed-plum. The shadows do have a baked formula and therefore are on the more sheer and shimmery side but look gorgeous on the eyes–especially paired with the Eye Gloss G, which is a pale bubblegum pink. It’s super sheer, mostly depositing a wash of iridescent light pink shimmer. But it acts as a nice base for the 2 shadows, though I would layer a primer underneath. According to P&J, the products are gingerbread-scented but I only detect a light, indiscernible sweet scent that doesn’t linger.

This set would be perfect for all P&J fans, kitten/animal-lovers, and makeup-lovers who embrace their inner child. The set would also be great for young girls who are just getting started with their (probable) to-be lifelong relationship with all things beauty.

IT Cosmetics Luxe Blurring Micro-Airbrush 7-Piece Brush Collection* ($254 at

Here’s one for the brush-fanatic in your life–IT Cosmetics has a new Airbrush Luxury Brush Set out just in time for Christmas! Words truly cannot describe how amazing these brushes are. I tell you, when I run a finger across the (100% cruelty-free, synthetic) hairs, it’s like running my finger across a cloud. It just barely feels substantial and whispers across the skin.

As the name suggests, the set comes with 7 uber luxurious face and eye brushes–the Airbrush Powder Brush, Angled Complexion Brush, Flawless Foundation Brush, Blurring Concealer Brush, Eyeshadow Crease Brush, All-Over Eyeshadow Brush, and Eyeliner/Eyebrow Brush. As a bonus, IT has included a gorgeous frosted brush holder that has a nice heft to it and holds the brushes securely in place.

Now I’m not very big on makeup brushes; I’ve always been of the mindset that if it works, no need to pay extra. Luxury face brushes like those from Hakuhodo and the like have never really interested me (of course I’d love to try them but actually spending my own money to purchase them is a whole different story!). But one caress from one of these beautiful brushes and I’m sure any stingy spender would drop the money to get their hands on one of these sets!

The set comes with a variety of essential brushes that cover pretty much every base. It’d make a great starter brush set for any aspiring makeup enthusiast or a nice addition to any brush-lover’s collection!

Nuxe LE Love From Paris Holiday Set* ($59 at

You’ll recall my review of Nuxe’s Huile Prodigieuse Or here. The original Huile Prodigieuse has the same beautiful, moisturizing formula but without the golden shimmer. Please see my review for the Huile Prodigieuse Or if you want to read my thoughts on the formula.

The set contains 3 Nuxe bestsellers: the infamous Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse (50 ml.), Contour des Yeux Prodigieux Anti-Fatigue Moisturizing Eye Cream (15 ml.), and the Crème Prodigieuse Anti-Fatigue Moisturizing Cream for Normal to Combination Skin (40 ml.). Now I’d buy the set for the beautiful LE Love From Paris Huile Prodigieuse bottle alone (it’s that good!), but I am so glad to also receive the eye cream and face cream in this stunning set. Living up to the high standards of French skincare, the products are both simple yet amazingly effective. The eye cream is rich and moisturizing yet not greasy and my skin just drinks up the face cream–perfect for the winter season!

This set truly is a beauty and would make a great last-minute gift or stocking stuffer for any skincare-junkie! I know I’d certainly be happy to find this under my tree!

TEMPTU LE Patricia Field Signature Starter Kit* ($199 at

This kit is for those gadget-loving beauty gurus out there. Never tried airbrush makeup before? Neither had I, before this. But the TEMPTU Signature Starter Kit takes all the guesswork out of airbrush makeup, and all the actual work out of applying makeup. The end result? Seriously flawless, perfect skin.

This set comes with TEMPTU’s AIRbrush Makeup System 2.0 (with an LE Gelaskin designed by Patricia Field, in your choice of the Martine Girl or Lips on Fire print), 1 AIRpod Foundation (in your choice of shade), 1 AIRpod Blush (your choice of shade), and 1 AIRpod Highlighter (in your choice of shade). As if that weren’t enough, the set is also filled with bonus goodies–there’s a handy 3 Pod Stand to store your makeup pods, a Signature Clear Makeup Bag (which would be great for flying! In fact, I’ll be packing my skincare goodies in this bag next week when I fly to San Jose!), and a free foundation gift voucher! For $199, that is an awesome value!

I really think this would make a great gift for just about anyone. After all, who doesn’t want perfect skin? Those who struggle with foundation application or problematic skin and/or scarring might appreciate this one especially.

I love this set so much, I’ll be doing a full review of it so stay tuned for that! :)

I hope this post gave you guys a few ideas for some last-minute gifts! Each and every one is an amazing treat and a real no-brainer, so you can just pick any one and purchase without fear that the person who the gift is intended for won’t like it. After all, who wouldn’t want to receive any one of these beauties?! ;)

Happy Holidays guys and good luck with your last minute shopping!

Great picks here, Becca. That brush set looks really nice!

Thanks Lily!! The brush set is SUPER nice–the nicest, softest brushes that I’ve personally ever used or even touched! These brushes are SERIOUS! :P

Great picks Becca! As you know I love Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse and LUSH Rose Jam is da bomb! Now I’m super intrigued by that air brush kit, that one I’d like to give a try! :)

    • becca December 21, 2013 at 3:09 pm #

Thank you!!! :D And yes, when I first saw the Nuxe set, I immediately thought of you since you love the Huile Prodigieuse so much! :P Have you ever tried the eye cream or face cream before?

And the airbrush set is AMAZING! I still have to get the hang of applying it evenly but jeez does it make my skin look flawless! For $199 and ALL the goodies that come in the set, I think it’s such a great deal!

I did try the Crème Prodigieuse from a sample and didn’t like it because I found it left a sticky feel on my skin but I know that it’s been reformulated so it may very well have been improved as far as the feel is concerned. The Nuxe cream I looove is Crème Fraîche which I have in both rich and light versions. Smell and feel are almost divine! :)

        • becca December 22, 2013 at 4:10 pm #

Yeah I definitely don’t feel like I can/should use it every night because my skin tends towards being quite oily (used to be super oily all the time but lately, I feel like the oiliness has been dramatically reduced. Thank GOD!) so I only use it on nights that I really feel like I need it. It’s nice though! I want to try more from Nuxe now!

I was looking at the Crème Fraîche online when I was writing this post and was really intrigued by it! The name just makes it sound so beautiful! haha! Didn’t realize that it came in a rich and light version–I think that’s really cool and will definitely put the light version on my wishlist now! :D

Oh the Ren set and the kitty set are adorable!

    • becca December 21, 2013 at 3:09 pm #

Isn’t the Arabesque design on the REN box gorgeous?? I really wish I could collect them all–they’re beautiful and the colors are so lively and fresh! :D

IT makes pretty great brushes! I’d love to find that under the tree!

    • becca December 21, 2013 at 3:10 pm #

Yes they do! I’ve tried 2 or 3 of IT’s brushes before but seriously, these Luxe Airbrush ones even blow THEM out of the water! They are SO friggin soft!!! It’s crazy! :P

sleeping with noriko under your pillow is so cute!! and such a good idea lol.

    • becca December 22, 2013 at 2:24 am #

LOL I just couldn’t stop sniffing it one night and after I was already under the covers, I decided to get up again to sniff it (true story, by the way. HA!) and I got tired of getting in and out of bed so just stuck it under my pillow. Needless to say, it’s been under there ever since! :P I really want to go stock up before it’s gone (and stock up on the Rose Jam body wash too! SO yummy!) but I have sooo many other things I have to buy and after all the Christmas presents and still no job, I gotta keep the spending at a minimum. :/ And of course, gotta start saving for Armani Spring 2014 too…haha!

Wow great gift guide post Becca! Really love all these products. I havent tried anything from It before but those brushes look really nice! They kind of reind me of a set that Sephora came out with a while ago except it was gold I think. Oh and I cant wait to see your review for the Temptu airbrush set, Ive been really curious about that!

    • becca December 22, 2013 at 3:53 am #

I KNOW WHICH SET YOU’RE TALkING ABOUT!!! :P It was called the 24K brush set…or maybe Cashmere brush set? lol something like that. Anyway I bought it and gave it to my mom! The hair was white and the handles were gold…now those were soft! Did you ever feel them? Well if you did, imagine that IT’s Luxe Airbrush brushes are 20 times that soft! I’m not kidding–they’re pretty amazing! And I know the set is kinda pricey but for SEVEN brushes (and the cool brush holder, of course) I think it is well worth the money!

  7. Memoiselle December 22, 2013 at 4:51 am #

The Nuxe and IT Cosmetic brush looks intriguing!
I have purchased most gifts for my friends and I think it’s time to buy some for me :p

    • becca December 22, 2013 at 4:08 pm #

Haha you’re lucky you’re done! I still have 2 more presents to buy. But even if I were done, I wouldn’t be able to shop for myself because I will be BROKE once Christmas is over!! :( haha

  8. Yasi December 23, 2013 at 2:43 am #

Oh what a post filled with such beautiful products! I wish I didn’t already have all my shopping done for I would definitely be looking in to some of these for my friends and family!

    • becca December 23, 2013 at 2:57 am #

Hey, it’s never too late to treat yourself! ;) haha! But really, if you do get a chance to treat yourself, I would definitely look into one of these sets before they’re gone (the IT Cosmetics brush set will still be around, as will the TEMPTU Airbrush set, though the design is LE. The Nuxe set is LE too and the REN packaging is LE but I’m pretty sure the Mini Rose Set is permanent, but I could be wrong…). They really are worth the money and each and every one is absolutely spectacular! :)

Happy Holidays, Yasi! Thanks for stopping by!
