The Sample: NEW Senna Brilliant Bronze Baked Bronzers in Dawn & Sunset (Review, Swatches & Photos)

Well since I TOTALLY dropped the ball on the Senna Spring 2013 collection, there was just no way I could not tell you guys about their exciting Summer 2013 Sunglow collection! The entire collection contains 11 pieces. Today, I’ll be showing you 2–the 2 beautiful baked bronzers in this collection, Dawn and Sunset.

In true Senna style, they have created two different looks from the collection: Bronzelite and Emerald Isle. Dawn, the lighter of the two bronzers, is from the Bronzelite look. Sunset is from the Emerald Isle look. The two shades are vastly different but equally breathtaking. Truly, I was hesitant at first just because I usually prefer my powders pressed as opposed to baked. But once again, Senna blew me away with their Brilliant Bronze Baked Bronzers.

The bronzers are packaged in a square, black plastic compact that has a bit of heft to it, which I like. The compact is a definitely print-magnet but so are most compacts out there, so I can’t complain too much. Overall, it’s a tad bit bulky but nothing too crazy too handle.

Inside, the powders are split into two sides: the left side is a lighter shimmering shade meant to be the highlighter. The right (slightly larger) side is the bronzing shade. Dawn is described as a “light bronze and seashell pink highlighter”. The bronzer is a light-medium tan with just a hint of pink to it. It’s veeery beautiful on the cheeks and very natural-looking! I would say Dawn is more a blusher/bronzer than a true bronzer.

–The 2 photos above were taken in cooler sunlight. The ones below were taken in warmer, late-afternoon sunlight–

Sunset, meanwhile, is much deeper and richer in hue. Senna describes this one as a “deep bronze and golden highlighter”. The highlighter is a pale yellow-gold and hardly shows up on the skin at all, save for the shimmer. The bronzer is a rich, deep golden-brown. It creates the most stunning, bronzed-goddess cheeks ever!

Both shades are quite sheer but can be layered for a more sunny-looking tan. Still, no matter how much I pack the stuff on, it remains completely gorgeous and natural-looking! This stuff is pretty much foolproof I tell ya–even the most novice of bronze…ees (??) can achieve the most flattering of glows with very minimal effort and skill required.

As with most baked mineral powders, it may feel a bit rough to the touch at first but it’s incredibly finely milled in texture and applies smoothly. Because it is so fine, however, it does tend to kick up quite a bit of dust–again, this is to be expected from most baked powders. The type of brush you use does effect this, as well.

I highly recommend using the Powder Point 33 Brush from this collection to apply. It’s super-soft and minimizes the amount of fallout in the pan. The perfectly pointed shape also hugs every curve of your face and perfectly blends the color from the get-go, so there’s no need for any additional blending!

Both powders lasted almost 4 hours on my (currently) super-oily skin. Not the longest wearing powders I’ve tested but certainly worth the extra touch-up. They’re just so darn pretty on! Aside from the shorter wear-time, these baked bronzers are pretty amazing! They’re so beautiful and really subtle, easy to apply, flattering on a variety of skin tones…they are pretty sheer but that’s why I love these (you guys know I like my powders on the sheerer side) and, again, they can be layered easily.

All in all, I give these my stamp of approval. They’re stunning and make your complexion absolutely glow with warmth and radiance, making it look like you’ve spent the week lying out by the pool (instead of trapped in a small, 4×4 cubicle, perhaps? :P). So essentially, it’s your week-long summer getaway packed neatly in an adorable compact. Your welcome.

Hey Becca, thanks for the review! I don’t get along too well with baked anything, so I might pass on these. Definitely eyeing that teal eyeshadow though! For the moment my go-to bronzer is Dior Coral Glow. I just can’t get tired of it!

    • becca July 24, 2013 at 12:30 pm #

Haha Coral Glow is a staple in my routine now too, so I completely understand! :P still, I am really liking Dawn! It’s the perfect mix of pink and brown…love it! :D

I like the pink and bronze one. I always seem to be drawn to baked textures in the pan, they look so pretty!

Me too! I usually don’t really like baked powders but the swirling designs get me EVERY time! :P haha!

Oh lady, I have MISSED YOU and your beautiful photos! These bronzers look amazing — so natural, even thouguh they have a bit of shimmer! Welcome back :)

    • becca July 24, 2013 at 12:32 pm #

Aw THANK YOU SO MUCH, my dear! I have missed you too!! I’m so sorry for disappearing and not visiting all my favorite blogs (including yours) but I expect as soon as school starts up again, I will be around more :D

Pretty Becca! I often love the look of bronzers on others but don’t give them too much attention myself because they don’t really work the same on me :P But, I did discover this year that rather than looking for one to add color, look for one that has some shimmer to it to ENHANCE my own coloring…these could work, dontcha think??

    • becca July 24, 2013 at 12:33 pm #

Oh I TOTALLY think! :D Even Sunset! Built up a bit on your skin, I definitely think it’d add a very subtle warmth and a whole lotta glow!! :D And Dawn would be a gorgeous subtle blusher/highlighter on you!

So pretty!! I love the looks of both of them! But uggh-I am in bronzer overload this summer. AGAIN. hahahahaha

    • becca July 24, 2013 at 12:35 pm #

LOL oh me too, TRUST ME! :P Sadly enough, the one I was most excited for though (Guerlain’s Terra Nerolia) STILL isn’t in my possession and July is almost over!! It just never hit counters here for some reason…strange, since I TOTALLY think the gorgeous design and color would make it stand out! I keep meaning to order it online but I am bad about that. I need to see something in person or know it’s attainable and in the near vicinity for me to even remember to check it out :P

Ahhh gorgeous! These look like they would work beautiful as a contour as well. Love the fine shimmer and the shades both certainly look like a believable bronze!

    • becca July 24, 2013 at 7:15 pm #

They could def work as a contour–especially Sunset. It’s quite shimmery though so definitely a better bronzer but gorgeous nonetheless! I am in love with Dawn as a blusher/bronzer!! :D

I’ve never heard of Senna but the packaging looks pretty. Baked blush/bronzers/eye shadows look gorgeous. I love the idea of indulging in bronzers/highlighters, but I tend to find a couple that I like and I just stick with them. Right now I’m into the cheapie ones like NYC Sunny Bronzer and Rimmel’s matte bronzer.

    • becca July 25, 2013 at 1:39 am #

You know, I always hear SUCH good things about the Rimmel one so I ran out to buy it a little while ago. I was pretty disappointed…though I probably had built it up too much in my head from all the good things I’d heard :P I am curious about the NYC one though! Haven’t tried too much from the brand lately but I keep hearing only positive things!

  8. Lily July 25, 2013 at 7:01 am #

These are so pretty! If I didn’t read the post, I might have thought they were eye shadows. LOL!

    • becca July 26, 2013 at 12:28 am #

Haha well I suppose they really could work as shadows too, though they are quite sheer…maybe if used wet? :P

  9. Jacqueline July 26, 2013 at 6:53 pm #

Becca, these two bronzers look divine. You picked out very pretty pieces from the collection.

    • becca July 27, 2013 at 6:11 pm #

Aw thanks Jacqui! I wish I could take credit but the lovely folks over at Senna picked them out for me :P The entire collection is gorgeous though, isn’t it? LOVE the bronzers especially and REALLY love the brush and shadows, as well. Still giving the liners a test but I’m really hoping they will actually stay put on my super oily, small eyes! :P

I think Senna is the only brand that got the summer collection colour scheme right, LOL! This is the year when all the brands mix up the seasonal tones and it’s a bit weird to me to be honest. I like how this colour palette reminds me of a gorgeous sunset. Dammit, Senna, get a brick & mortar store or a counter already.

    • becca August 1, 2013 at 10:50 pm #

LOL I know, right?! I was so relieved when I received the package in the mail and saw all the gorgeous summery shades. THAT’S more like it!! :P

Senna definitely needs to get some counter action. The brand is really amazing and not enough people know about it!! :/
