The Sample: NEW Giorgio Armani Summer Collection 2013 Bronze All-Over Face & Eye Palette (Review, Swatches & Photos)

3 May

I usually don’t have a problem writing out an intro to my posts but in this case, I’m struck a bit dumb. Just look at that palette! I’m not entirely sure that words are really necessary here. So let’s all just take a collective step back for a moment and just gawk at the beauty that is Giorgio Armani’s Summer 2013 Face & Palette! :D

This palette is the gem of Giorgio Armani’s Summer 2013 Collection.  The collection includes this limited-edition palette and the new (and permanent) Flash Lacquers, available in 36 stunning shades (only 18 are currently available on Giorgio Armani’s site. The rest will be released sometime this month).

The palette, listed on their site as the “Bronze All-Over” Palette, features 2 levels: the insanely beautiful Amber bronzer with the dazzling, intricately embossed design on the top tier and 3 shadows on the bottom tier (with 2 double-sided sponge-tipped applicators included).

When I first saw the lovely embossing of the powder, it immediately brought to mind the image of delicate pleats rippling through metallic fabric. Upon reading the description on Armani’s site, I learned that that was indeed the look they were going for: pleated lamé. It certainly is beautiful, don’t you think? The bronzer just glimmers and winks in the sunlight–it’s truly a sight to behold.

The bronzer is a medium, warm tan hue with slight orange tones. I know some people are afraid of orange in their bronzers but it really looks incredibly natural when used correctly/sparingly. The bronzer is labeled as being sheer though, so you don’t have to worry about overdoing it with the color and looking like an oompa loompa. The color is nice and soft and easy to blend out, so it’s basically foolproof. The almost metallic-looking surface shine is mostly an overspray, though the bronzer underneath still does have a soft golden sheen. It’s very fine and does not accentuate my large pores in the slightest.

The 3 eyeshadow shades are unnamed. From left to right is a warm, frosted golden creamy white; a soft, pearly peach; a medium-dark, warm golden-brown with a slight golden sheen.

As one would imagine–or hope, anyway–all the powders in this palette were unbelievably soft, silky, and finely milled. These were truly some of the most delectably soft and creamy powders I have ever tried. There was no fallout or problems with pigmentation–just smooth, rich color and a sinfully buttery texture. Every single shade, including the bronzer, was an absolute breeze to work with. I honestly barely had to blend a thing–I just swept and patted everything across my face haphazardly and ended up looking like I had spent 30 mins. transforming myself into a bronzed goddess (or at least the closest I would ever come to looking like one. Haha!) for all my minimal effort!

The ease of use will make this palette especially nice to have during the summer when you really don’t have the time and/or motivation to put together a whole look but want to look pretty and bronzy before hitting the beach. You have all your products in one convenient and oh-so-chic palette! Just apply a wash of the peach shade all over the lid, smudge the brown onto the upper lashline  (or darken the crease/outer V with it, if you prefer) and outer third of the lower lashline, add a bit of the shimmering cream into the tear duct, and sweep the bronzer onto the cheekbones. Et voilà–perfect, effortless, beachy beauty in an instant! I also like to use the bronzer as a shadow too and apply it all over my lid, using the darker brown shadow to deepen the outer corners. It is beautiful on the eyes as well as the cheeks!

And as a plus, with the inclusion of the bronzer as an eyeshadow, you pretty much have the same shades as the new Eyes to Kill Shimmer palette in Mirage. I was going to buy that palette but decided on this one instead since they were so similar but this one had a bronzer. The 2 palettes’ peach and dark brown shades are almost exactly the same while the highlighter shade in this palette is just a touch more frosted and white than Mirage’s version. The Amber bronzer is very different compared to Mirage’s mid-tone warm, slightly coppery gold but the idea is sort of the same in that they are both quite warm, are both mid-tone, and both have golden highlights. Anyway the 2 were similar enough for me that I felt I could get away with just buying one.

The shadows lasted all day (over a primer) easily. The bronzer held up for about 5 1/2 hours on my skin. Remember though, my skin is very oily and getting oilier by the day thanks to the rising temperatures here (yesterday and today have been in the mid to high 80′s). Those with dry, normal, and combo skin should have no problems getting this to wear for at least 8 hours, if not more.

Now trust me, I know this palette is seriously pricey and these probably aren’t the most unique shades ever made but if you’re a lover of warm neutrals, shimmering, summery color, and easy to use/wear palettes that take all the guesswork out of creating a complete, complimentary look, this one’s for you. I myself will never get tired of high-quality, perfectly done neutrals and couldn’t be happier with my purchase!

Oh wow, I really didn’t think I’d want this but after a couple of posts I’m tempted! I love the pleats on the bronzer too, and I really really like how the darkest eyeshadow swatches on you. It definitely has more dimension than I thought it would!

    • becca May 3, 2013 at 7:39 pm #

I know! When I first saw pics of this palette, I kinda just wanted it for the bronzer–the shadows were pretty but didn’t seem TOO interesting. But after swatching them and playing with them, I am blown away. Armani takes these really simple shades and transforms them somehow. The brown is a hair darker of a shade than I would normally wear anywhere on my lids except smudged near the lashline or to darken the outer v. But this one is soooo soft and SO easy to blend that I can wear it up in my crease and barely blend it and it looks perfectly smoky and lovely! I HIGHLY recommend this one, Sunny! You would love it :D

Ack!!! You are seriously making me rethink this palette!!! When I swatched the bronzer I thought it was too shimmery, but I had no idea it was mostly the overspray!! And the shadows are no doubt gorgeous, but I’m trying to refrain from buying more shadows. Trying… LOL!! :-) So, so beautiful and utterly wearable!!!

    • becca May 3, 2013 at 7:40 pm #

Oh yeah, the bronzer has a golden shimmery sheen to it but it definitely has a much more shimmery/metallic overspray over top. The shades are DEFINITELY shades that never go out of style, so even though they’re not terribly unique, I’m so glad I have these high-quality staples in my collection :)

  3. Teri May 3, 2013 at 6:01 pm #

Wow Becca, your pictures are stunning! The palette looks even better now ^^. It’s a big win for me, the bronzer is simply amazing and the eyeshadows are so wearable!

    • becca May 3, 2013 at 7:41 pm #

Thanks Teri!! :D I know I am in love with this palette. It’s definitely going to be my most used palette this summer, hands down! :D

  4. Taylor May 3, 2013 at 6:13 pm #

A+++ it’s spectacular! I can’t believe you touched it! Haha. It so beautiful in the case but the colors are actually stunning swatched, natural, bronzed and glowing. I’m in love, but I’m going to just admire it from here :-) enjoy it

    • becca May 3, 2013 at 7:43 pm #

Hahaha I know Taylor–it was sooooooo hard! I’ve had 2 other powders that it actually HURT to dig into–Burberry’s Sheer Summer Glow and Chanel’s Poudre Signee. Swatching this Armani palette for the first time probably hurt more than the Chanel and Burberry COMBINED!! :P haha! But the results are definitely worth it! :)

This is a gorgeous palette and it is coming my way too. I am so excited to see your swatches dear, I know I did not make a bad choice with this.

    • becca May 3, 2013 at 7:44 pm #

Yaaay you’re going to love love LOVE this, Jacqueline!! :D I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it too–this is a great one for summer!

  6. BooBooNinja May 3, 2013 at 7:05 pm #

You did it! All your hard work and trouble-shooting paid off. Fantastic photos. What a gorgeous product.

    • BooBooNinja May 3, 2013 at 7:06 pm #

Sorry — I just realised my comment doesn’t contribute much in the way of MU commentary. I just blurted out a comment because I was happy you’re able to post again!

      • becca May 3, 2013 at 7:45 pm #

Hahaa no apologies necessary–I am SO freaking happy all the hard work and stress finally paid off too :P Thanks again for being there for me to vent to, sweetie :)

  7. Tracy@Beauty Reflections May 3, 2013 at 7:51 pm #

WOWZA she’s a BEAUTE!I love the way the bronzer looks swatched! Ahh, Armani WHY you so much monies?????

    • becca May 3, 2013 at 9:12 pm #

LOL I know it’s painful, really, but SO so worth it! The texture…ooooh it’s so lovely and buttery, it gives me goosebumps!! :P

  8. Lily May 3, 2013 at 9:15 pm #

This is too beautiful Becca. I’m glad there isn’t any GA here, or I’d definitely succumb! Love the design, love the colours, everything about it :-) Your beautiful photos make it even more tempting! Glad you finally got it up :-)

    • becca May 3, 2013 at 9:34 pm #

Aw thanks Lily! I was scared for a moment that it was going to be another week before I was able to finally post about it–I’ve been waiting impatiently to share it because it’s just SO pretty! :D

  9. Makeup Morsels May 3, 2013 at 9:20 pm #

Beautiful photos and oof what a gorgeous panful of product. I definitely see what you mean about the lack of words to describe something so beautiful. The shadows are nice too, I particularly like the inclusion of that middle shade. And that bronzer! Oh my god, the overlay is just beautiful, how long does it take for the pleats to be worn down? Must swatch this one in person when I get the chance.

    • becca May 3, 2013 at 9:36 pm #

I’m not sure how long it would take just using it regularly with a brush. I swatched it in the corner (in just one area of the pan where the tiny nick it in the photos) using a sponge-tipped applicator and it’s about 80% worn away in that little area. The texture of this powder is just so soft and creamy that using a dense applicator will no doubt wear it away quickly. I will update again once I’ve been using it awhile with my regular bronzer brush!

  10. Claire May 4, 2013 at 1:01 am #

Beside those beautiful pictures, I really enjoyed reading this post! I like how you descrbed the armani powder. This is the first time I am cinsidering getting this palette. I don’t know how it will look on my skintone but I am tempted to try it out now >.< I think the e/s palette looks nice but I already have some neutrals and think that the armani palette may have been dupable in my stash. But the peachy-neutral e/s looks delicious :)

    • becca May 4, 2013 at 2:31 am #

Aw thank you Claire–you’re always so sweet :) <3

I know it’s not the most eye catching or exciting palette at first glance (well, the shades at least. The embossing and gorgeous overspray of the bronzer certainly got my heart pumping! :P), but ooh it is *gorgeous* Claire. The shades are timeless, effortless, and have such dimension! And the bronzer…I was scared it would be too shimmery or too orange or whatever but it is SO natural-looking on my yellow-toned NC25ish (I think…possibly a hair darker) skin. I think the color is translucent enough that it really doesn’t look heavy or muddy on the skin, it lies on the skin like a true tan. And omg is it GLOWY–wow! I love it so much! At least swatch it if you can–I think you’d really love it! :)

  11. Jenni @ lifeandlensofbeauty May 4, 2013 at 3:25 am #

I”ve been wavering between to buy this or not…I swatched at store in person but backed off from it :P its’ surely gorgeous but i think i have dupes in my stash! I haven’t had a palette which contains both bronzers and neutral e/s…lemme sleep on this one XD

    • becca May 4, 2013 at 3:26 pm #

Yeah definitely it’s pricey for a palette that you might have dupeable shades of but I think the real draw is the convenience of having both bronzer and eyeshadow and the insanely gorgeous textures! It’s not for everyone but I am so happy with my purchase :)

  12. Catherine (@bcrueltyfree) May 4, 2013 at 5:45 am #

I’m dying over how stunning the bronzer looks! To be honest, I have plenty of shadows in similar shades, so they don’t excite me as much. But the bronzer… oh my goodness!

    • becca May 4, 2013 at 3:31 pm #

Yeah the shadows aren’t very unique and I have lots of similar shades in my collection but I’m still so happy I have it because of the convenience of having bronzer and eyeshadow in one palette and the lovely, buttery smooth textures. I also feel like Armani has the ability to transform a “boring” shade like brown into a gorgeous interesting brown with so much dimension. My photos don’t do it justice–it has to be swatched to be believed! :D

  13. Meryl @ Memoiselle May 4, 2013 at 6:13 pm #

    Hey Becca!
Giorgio Armani has one of the finest products out there. I love their eyeshadow (especially Eyes to Kill!) and their Designer Lift Foundation. This one is also a winner and I think this one is a must have for me too!! Your pictures looks super beautiful btw :D

    • becca May 4, 2013 at 10:11 pm #

Giorgio Armani is definitely one of my top favorite brands. I only tried my first product from them back at the end of summer but already they’ve quickly beat out many other brands as one of my top picks. Everything they do is just incredible–so innovative. Their formulas are superior–each shadow meticulously crafted. I am blown away by their Maestro foundation and concealer. There’s really nothing else like it out there! And this palette, though “just” containing neutrals that are easy to dupe, is really special because of not only the amazing embossing on the bronzer and the metallic overspray but the gorgeous, creamy texture of the shadows! I love this palette soooo much–I hope you do get this one, Meryl! You’ll be SO happy with it! :D

  14. Krystle Kouture (Baking Beauty) May 4, 2013 at 8:00 pm #

This bronzer looks amazing. The pleats and his signature look amazing!

    • becca May 4, 2013 at 10:12 pm #

Isn’t it so gorgeous?? Ugh, you don’t know HOW painful it was to dig into it with the sponge-tipped applicator for the first time. And I thought the Chanel Poudre Signee was bad…:P haha!

  15. Liz May 4, 2013 at 8:41 pm #

It’s one of the most stunning pieces I’ve seen in a while, and your pics are gorgeous! So much second-hand joy that you have this. :D :D :D

    • becca May 4, 2013 at 10:14 pm #

Aww lol thanks wifey! What’s mine is yours. We will split custody! :P hahaha!

I know this really caught my eye–best presentation I’ve seen so far from the summer collections. Thankfully the products themselves are incredible and not just pretty to look at :) So happy with this one!!

  16. Isabelle May 5, 2013 at 1:39 pm #

I own two Armani palettes and I’m reluctant to buy more since I do feel like you get similar quality with other brands.. However this does again look good. Sigh! The bronzer is a whole other story.. that one just looks DIVINE! How seriously pretty is that?!

    • becca May 5, 2013 at 2:38 pm #

Ooh which 2 palettes do you own, Isabelle?? This is my first! I have 1 ETK shadow and 1 blush as well as foundation and a Fluid Sheer. I loved all the other stuff but this palette is truly amazing! I know there are other brands who have a nice quality but there’s just something about these shades that are so perfect. They don’t seem unique until you swatch them. The perfect sheen and buttery texture are so fantastic! The fact that they come in a palette with bronzer is awesome. And not just any bronzer–this bronzer is seriously stunning! Oh it is SO natural-looking on, I am in love with it! You need to swatch it in-store if you can!! :D

  17. svetlana May 6, 2013 at 8:52 am #

I’m glad your site is up and running and u got these gorgeous pictures up! Speaking of gorgeous so is this compact! Proves my theory of brands prettier packaging to get me to buy buy buy! Perfect for summer outdoors adventures or lounging by the pool!

    • becca May 6, 2013 at 3:37 pm #

Aw thanks, Svetlana :) It was pretty worrisome and stressful for a while so I’m definitely glad to have it up too :)

And I completely agree about the packaging–brands just keep getting savvier and savvier and my poor wallet is bleeding :P haha! I am so happy with this palette though. The presentation is beautiful, yes, but the products are really, really amazing too! Have you tried anything from Giorgio Armani?

  18. Toya May 6, 2013 at 9:18 am #

I will say……this palette is ALL SORTS OF GORGEOUS. It’s unlikely I’ll shell out the big bucks for it, but nonetheless you cannot avoid the fact that it is HOT! I’m headed to Ottawa in a few weeks and am planning a stop by the GA counter…so I guess we’ll see if it’s still in stock and is able to capture my heart in person (which it entirely possible). I think you’re gonna get SO much use out of this Becca!!

    • becca May 6, 2013 at 3:39 pm #

Haha yeah it’s definitely quite pricey. I really would like a back-up of the bronzer but there’s just no way I could get myself to fork over an additional $88 for another palette–the first time was already painful enough as is :P I’m happy with my choice though–I’ve been wanting a GA palette for a while and I’ve seen some really gorgeous ones (the Beige Moonlight one, for example. At least I think that’s what it was called. OMG I wanted that one sooo bad!) but I think this is the one I will get the MOST use out of!

I wish you luck when you go to the GA counter. I don’t know if I’m wishing that you WILL or WONT like it though :P hahaha!

  19. Larie May 6, 2013 at 6:08 pm #

This seems to be right up your alley – they’re totally Becca colors! Summery, golden, bronze, peach. I’m glad you love this so much, haha – it’s always fun to see people so cheerful! <3

    • becca May 7, 2013 at 1:08 am #

Haha they are, aren’t they?! :P Thanks, Larie–you’re too sweet. Yeah that’s why I was saying this palette was SO worth it to me because they’re shades I just LOVE to wear–the superb quality makes it even more of a treat! This pricey palette isn’t for everyone but I’m sure glad I got it :) Have you purchased anything from the summer collections yet, Larie? If so, what’s been your favorite buy?

      • Larie May 10, 2013 at 3:40 pm #

        Nothing yet! ;)

        • becca May 10, 2013 at 4:25 pm #

Whoa really? Nice job!! Are the summer collections not really your thing, then? Because I’m finding it damn near impossible to resist!! :P haha!

  20. Marianna May 8, 2013 at 9:34 pm #

Gorgeous shades! And all of them look so silky and smooth! Argh! Why do pretty things always cost so much? Any dupes that are close in both color AND quality?

    • becca May 9, 2013 at 12:45 am #

Oh they really are sooooo smooth–you have NO idea! I know, it’s a shame about the price though. I’ve wanted to try the GA palettes for so long and have come close a few times but the price tag always stopped me…until now. What can I say, I can’t resist a pretty summer palette as well-done as this one :P

As far as dupes…dang you really have me stumped on this one! I wish I could rattle a list off the top of my head but I can’t really. I definitely can’t think of one for the bronzer–it’s just so pretty and special. As for the shadows, sure there are lots of brands that have really nice, soft, buttery shadows at a fraction of the price (Urban Decay, etc.) but there’s just something about the GA shades that make them special, in my opinion. The shimmer/sheen is just SO soft and refined. And the shadows are ridiculously easy to blend out. Seriously. They are MUCH easier to blend out than any of the nicest UD shadows I’ve tried! You know, you could check out one of Armani’s newer palettes: the Eyes to Kill Shimmer Quad in Mirage. The shades are EXTREMELY similar and you get 4 shadows for $59–still pricey but you are at least still getting the GA-quality :)
