The Sample: BITE Beauty Lush Lip Tints in Juice & Tangelo (Review, Swatches & Photos)

You know that beauty urban legend of sorts that has been circling the web about how the average woman consumes between 5-10 lbs. of lipstick in her lifetime? Though the facts are debatable (you’d have to not only purchase but completely use up hundreds upon hundreds of lipsticks in your lifetime in order to accidentally consume anywhere near even 5 lbs. of product!), it kinda gets you thinking about the products you’re wearing on your lips, doesn’t it? If I were going to accidentally ingest anything, I would hope it’d be an all-natural product made with food-grade ingredients instead of packed full of complicated and potentially harmful chemicals. That’s where BITE Beauty comes in…

BITE Beauty’s motto is “Natural, anti-aging beauty for lips that’s good enough to eat.” The brand’s focus is lip products, with each creation carefully formulated with the best of the best, lip-nurturing, food-grade ingredients and spiked with antioxidant-rich Resveratrol for good measure. Their line covers everything from bold matte lips to soft, shiny, semi-sheer tints. Today, I’ll be showing you their Lush Lip Tints in the shades Juice and Tangelo.

10 mg Trans-Resveratrol from red wine polyphenol & polygonum cuspidatum

Organic Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Organic Argania spinosa (Argan) Oil, Organic Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Triisostearyl Citrate, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Organic Cera alba (Beeswax), Acacia Decurrens/Jojoba/ Sunflower Seed Wax/ Polyglyceryl-3 Esters, Siraitia Grosvenorii Fruit Extract, Polygonum Cuspidatum Extract, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Vine Extract, Tocopherol, +/-, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77489, CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Carmine (CI 75470), FD&C Blue No. 1 (CI 42090), FD&C Yellow No. 5 (CI 19140), FD&C Yellow No. 6 (CI 15985), FD&C Red No. 40 (CI 16035), Manganese Violet (CI 77742)

The Lush Lip Tints strike the perfect balance between rich, pigmented color and sheer, moisturizing balm. The formula is packed with organic oils and fruit butters. You may have also noticed that each product features a white core in the middle in the shape of a “B”–so adorable! This unique moisturizing core is packed full of Resveratrol–a powerful antioxidant. The core is 10 mg. in size, which is roughly equal to 10 glasses of red wine! That’s a lot of antioxidant power!

Juice is a light-medium watermelon pink. Tangelo is a soft, light-medium orange with slight pinky tones. On my lips, it turns a beautiful coral-orange. The shade will vary depending on how pigmented your lips naturally are. Both shades are so, so lovely on and really are perfect for spring/summer. According to BITE, the colored part of the product contains a soft pearl highlighter to “make lips look plump and healthy”. The finish is quite glossy and luminous, giving the lips a very lush, juicy look but to be honest, I am unable to pinpoint any pearliness to the finish.

The Lip Tints are packaged in an elongated, charcoal-black metal tube with a matte, slightly rubberized outer coating. It’s a very simple yet sleek and sophisticated presentation. The packaging has a nice heft to it and the cap shuts with a very satisfying and secure click. They have a slightly sweet and fruity scent and taste to them but it’s very light and un-offending. The texture of these is very, very smooth and balmy. Tangelo is just a hair creamier than Juice, which is a bit more slick and balmy. Both are wonderfully moisturizing, though, and lend a beautiful, glossy shine to the lips. I wouldn’t exactly call this product a tinted balm–it’s more a sheer lipstick, I think. The color is sheer with one pass but you can build up the color to a solid light-medium coverage that still retains its lovely translucency. I think everyone will love these Lip Tints–there’s enough pigment to satisfy even the most devoted lipstick-lovers yet sheer and balmy enough for lipstick-phobes like me.

Not only was the formula phenomenal but the longevity was nothing to sniff at either. Both Tangelo and Juice wore for almost 4 hours on my lips–not bad at all! The verdict? Love love love these! These have already become some of my most coveted lip products. I cannot wait to get my hands on more (check out Lychee and Black Currant–gorgeous!). I think this is the perfect lippie to take you from spring and into summer. It’s easy to customize you coverage from sheer to light-medium, leaves your lips soft and conditioned, and the shades are absolutely to-die-for! I am so happy I finally gave BITE Beauty a try–it’s definitely everything I had hoped it would be and more! So what about you guys? Have you tried anything from BITE Beauty yet? Will you be checking out these Lush Lip Tints?

Whee I’m totally in love with these two shades! I’ve always wanted to try BITE, but the brand is painfully unavailable outside of North America. I should do some research and order some next time someone is nice enough to do a Sephora order for me :)

    • becca May 22, 2013 at 5:26 am #

I KNOW–aren’t they just sensational? Oooh I thought I already loved them when I first opened the tube but when I swatched it–love love pure love! Ah these are gorgeous! I highly recommend, Sunny! This is the type of sheer lipstick that I think many “real” lipstick lovers can get behind! :D

  2. Procrastinator May 22, 2013 at 5:44 am #

Ooooh! Juice looks a little like that Dior lip crayon you just reviewed, I think. Bite Beauty just opened up a custom lip-mixing lab in New York — would kill to finally get the perfect nude colour mixed for me!

    • becca May 22, 2013 at 1:58 pm #

I was thinking that too! So many people mentioned that they were disappointed with the sheerness of Gaïa and I think that Juice would be the perfect option for them!! :D

I just read about the custom mixing lab too! Oooh New Yorkers are SO lucky–it sounds so cool! :D

  3. Bellyhead May 22, 2013 at 7:16 am #

Goodness Becca! These are beautiful. I think a swatch session at Sephora is most definitely required to check these out in person. Thanks for your beautiful pictures.

    • becca May 22, 2013 at 1:59 pm #

Aw of course! Thank YOU Belly! :D And yes, you really need to check these out. I am kicking myself for not having tried these sooner–they are SO gorgeous!

Ooh I know Resveratrol is one of those antioxidants that is supposedly proven to help fight aging… well, the study looked at it when it was consumed, so I’m not sure whether it helps when applied topically, but interesting nonetheless. I like the packaging of this brand a lot and adore these sorts of lip products. Both shades look great, especially Juice!

    • becca May 22, 2013 at 2:02 pm #

Yeah I’ve read that too but honestly, I still love seeing it in my skincare/beauty products. It’s just like collagen and other ingredients, but I still love applying it topically anyway just in the hopes that a teeny tiny bit of it really can absorb and do SOMETHING good for my skin. haha! I guess I’m an optimist! :P

  5. Larie May 22, 2013 at 10:17 am #

These are delightful! Perfect and easy for summer, I think. I want to get a few more things from the brand (I only have a matte pencil) but I can’t decide…

    • becca May 22, 2013 at 2:03 pm #

Oooh what are you eyeing? Their products all look so gorgeous but, as you know, I’m not a huge lipstick wearer so I have a couple of glosses to review next then I think I was to check out their lip balm. It contains a ton of antioxidants and I love that! :D

  6. Krystle(Baking Beauty) May 22, 2013 at 12:07 pm #

Juice is so pretty. Love the little B on the tube too, I’ve never tried any Bite products.

    • becca May 22, 2013 at 2:04 pm #

I hadn’t either–these were my first! I was SO blown away by the quality though. Everything about these from the packaging and formula to the gorgeous shade is perfect! You really need to check these out, Krystle. They’re amazing and a must-have for summer, I think :)

  7. Liz May 22, 2013 at 1:58 pm #

I LOVE the look of these! I am trying desperately to finish off a few lip products and then splurge for some high quality brands. BITE is definitely on that list. My only quibble is that as a Canadian brand, they should reverse the US-Canadian pricing so that we can actually get a deal for once. There`s no reason for it to be cheaper in the States!

    • becca May 22, 2013 at 2:07 pm #

Aw I feel so bad for Canadians when it comes to buying beauty products :/ I’m sorry dear wifey! But I guess on the plus side, these really ARE worth it! Seriously, they nailed the whole package, from the matte metal tube to the lush, moisturizing formula to the glossy shine and gorgeous shades! They are definitely some of my new absolute favorite lip products and I can’t wait to get the other 2 shades I am eyeing :)

  8. Taylor May 22, 2013 at 3:01 pm #

Ooh look at those juicy lipsticks! I love both shades. I’ve been wanting to try bite for some time and these look like the perfect lipstick for summer! Good enough to eat :-)

    • becca May 22, 2013 at 3:51 pm #

Haha yep, that’s the idea!! :P These are SO gorgeous–I think they’d look lovely on you, Taylor! I can’t recommend these more! They’d be a great first product to try from the brand :)

  9. elle [wonderfelle world] May 22, 2013 at 6:28 pm #

I’ve been curious about Bite products – mainly because I love the packaging – but these are beautiful colors! Both shades are so pretty and it’s good to know they are moisturizing as well!

    • becca May 22, 2013 at 10:12 pm #

Oh everything about them is wonderful. The packaging is really simple but sleek and nice and the formula–wow! I definitely recommend checking at least these out! I have a couple of lip glosses to test as well but if the quality of the Lip Tints is any indication, I think I’ll be really pleased with those as well! Check them out if you can :D

  10. Teri May 22, 2013 at 8:02 pm #

Oh wow, I really loooove the finish of these! The shades are totally up my alley too! Now this is the type of sheer lipsticks that I love, it looks so yummy and it has enough pigment too! ^^

    • becca May 22, 2013 at 10:14 pm #

Isn’t is great?! AND the pigment they used in these is all-natural too–it’s incredible that they were able to formulate such a beautiful, pigmented lip product with SUCH great ingredients! I know it’s probably hard for you to get your hands on BITE products over there but if you ever get a chance, Teri, I highly recommend these!! :D

  11. Emi at Project Swatch May 22, 2013 at 8:11 pm #

These are lovely! They seem sheer enough to be just right for you, but pigmented enough to work for me too :)

    • becca May 22, 2013 at 10:15 pm #

My thoughts exactly–that’s why I love these so much! One or two swipes is just perfect for me but a few more passes back and forth and it yields more than enough pigment that I think you’d be really pleased, Emi :D You’ve tried BITE lipsticks before, right? OMG PLEASE try these!! You will LOVE them! And I can totally see you rocking Black Currant or Cherry ;D

  12. Tracy@Beauty Reflections May 22, 2013 at 8:36 pm #

I LOVE BITE LIPSTICKS and these look great! I was eyeing them last week but nobody had reviewed them yet-going back for one now! Thanks sweets!:)

    • becca May 22, 2013 at 10:18 pm #

YAAAAY–of course Tracy! OMG I’m so excited for you! You will LOVE these! Any particular shade you are eyeing? I think Lychee or Juice would look fabulous on you!! :D

  13. Toya May 23, 2013 at 6:59 am #

In an ideal world, I’d have a whole library of lip products from BITE Beauty – I’m such a huge fan of just the one I own, that I want to try all the formulations! These are no exception – the colors look awesome for spring and summer, and you’re right – they do have enough pigmentation for someone who likes solid color in their lippies. Love these Becca!

    • becca May 23, 2013 at 2:08 pm #

Oh if you’re already a BITE fan then you will be blown away by these, Toya! They are amazing–some of the most moisturizing lipsticks I have EVER come across! And the shades…oh every single one is so gorgeous! Gah–I am in LOVE!!!! :D

  14. Sara May 25, 2013 at 6:42 pm #

I think Juice is calling my name! I’m a sucker for light peachy-pinks :)

    • becca May 25, 2013 at 10:00 pm #

Hi Sara! In my opinion, Juice doesn’t really have peachy tones to it–it’s more a slightly muted watermelon-pink but it IS still quite gorgeous and warms up the face nicely, so I think you will still love it! :D Definitely give it a try if you can and let me know what you think! I am in LOVE with these! :D

  15. Angela @ The Unprofessional Beauty Blog May 25, 2013 at 8:50 pm #

This is going on my to buy list. I’ve tried BITE beauty and love their lip products.

    • becca May 25, 2013 at 10:02 pm #

Oooh what have you tried Angela?? I am dying to try more from the brand now–really want their antioxidant lip balm! I have a couple of glosses left to test though so I am super excited about that :)

  16. Gummy May 30, 2013 at 7:32 pm #

These look so beautiful…think I’m especially drawn to juice!! I did pin this so I’m excited to check them out next time I’m in Sephora!!!

    • becca May 30, 2013 at 9:46 pm #

Oooh I can’t wait to see if you get one–you’ll love it! The formula is so, so nice! And I am SO happy with both shades I chose–they really are perfect for spring and especially summer! I just need to get Lychee and Blackcurrant and I’ll be set! :D

  17. Shivani June 6, 2013 at 9:31 am #

that’s all fine and dandy but i want you to do a FOTD with a super pigmented bite lipstick or pencil. :P

    • becca June 6, 2013 at 5:02 pm #

Ahhh hahaa! Seriously, I get sent some “real” lipsticks sometimes and I try and try to wear them and like them but I just feel so…uncomfortable in them! Did you feel that way when you first started wearing lipstick, Shivani??

As for posting FOTD’s, I actually hadn’t tried to take any face pics for a long time but I did try with this particular post. The shots turned out SO bad (and didn’t really reflect the true color of the lipsticks anyway) that I just scrapped them…again. *sigh* not sure when I will finally get the hang of it!

      • Shivani June 6, 2013 at 7:33 pm #

I dont feel comfortable with FOTD’s too because trust me when I say, i’m not photogenic – i look horrible in candids and the ones which come on my blog are a result of a lot of hard work. But one thing that helps is stand in front of a mirror with ample lighting helps a lot.

i used to hate lipstick. it was only lipgloss for me first. Then I ventured into more pigmented lipgloss and then slowly red lipstick and now finally I only ever just want super pigmented lipsticks. But I have been wearing makeup since I was 15 and it took me at least 5 years to get to lipstick but 15 is too young for bright lipstick anyways now you should be able to wear those, no? Just wear bright lipstick at home and see how you feel first.

        • becca June 7, 2013 at 3:39 am #

Ok I’m just going to say this though: you always look GORGEOUS in your face shots! :) But I do know what you mean–I don’t feel like I am photogenic in the slightest either. I definitely think I look better in person than in photos. I have tried it in front of a mirror but the only mirror I have large enough is in my bedroom or bathroom and both rooms have HORRIBLE artificial lighting. I started trying to use a little handheld mirror while taking photos with my little point & shoot in the other hand (as it’s not easy to maneuver a DSLR with one hand!) but I still don’t like the results. I just have trouble with lighting mostly and getting the makeup to actually show up, let alone show up true to color, is a feat in and of itself! I keep practicing and practicing but man is it hard!

I do play with pigmented lipstick at home from time to time but I never quite feel like myself. For one thing, my face doesn’t carry a lot of makeup very well. If I even wear a medium-coverage gloss with my regular eye makeup, I just feel like I look way, way made up. I would never go without my eyeshadow, liner, etc. so I skip the lip color. Plus, I just don’t feel like strong lip color suits my style. I have a very casual, laid-back style and when I wear lipstick, I feel like I should be dressing up and actually LOOKING like a woman and not a beach bum :P haha! But the IDEA of wearing lipstick still very much appeals to me, somehow, so I keep playing and playing but never actually WEARING them anywhere :P
