The Sample–Valentine’s Day Edition: NEW Lush Be Mine Set (Review & Photos)

13 Feb

««Press Sample»»

I always hear people saying how much they hate Valentine’s Day; that they are alone and don’t have anyone to spend it with and hate seeing all the different companies–from greeting card to beauty brands–cash in on what is essentially just a marketing ploy. Well, I guess if you wanna look at it that way…but why not look at it as an excuse to treat yourself this year?! Who needs a significant other when there are treats like Lush’s Be Mine set out there?!

*Warning: this is a picture-heavy post!

Lush’s new-for-Valentine’s-Day Be Mine set comes beautifully, thoughtfully wrapped like this:

..and contains the following products:

There are a few other sets available on Lush’s site, but I chose Be Mine because I felt that the items inside could just as easily be enjoyed by oneself as it could à deux. In fact, who would want to share all these amazing goodies?! Call me stingy but I have heard so many great things about the products in this set that I am so looking forward to treating me, myself, and I to this fun, fragrant set! :P

Ingredients: Organic Shea Butter (Butyrospermum parkii), Murumuru Butter (Astrocaryum murumur)Almond Oil (Prunus dulcis)FragranceCupuacu Butter (Theobroma grandiflorum)GlycerineVanilla Absolute (Vanilla planifolia)Ylang Ylang Oil (Cananga odorata)*Citral*Geraniol*LimoneneLinalool*Benzyl Salicylate,*Benzyl Benzoate*FarnesolD&C Red No. 28D&C Red No. 33D&C Red No. 30 Talc Lake

First up is the new Tender is the Night Massage Bar. This massage bar features a light outer shell of shea and murmuru butters that crushes easily in the palm of your hand, revealing a unique soft center. This ooey-gooey center is made up of a blend of almond oil, glycerine, cupuaçu and agave syrup that is lightly perfumed with jasmine, ylang and vanilla. The scent is absolutely incredible–it’s not too strong at all (which I was worried about initially) and while it lingers on the skin for quite a while, it’s light and pleasant.

Now I know what you’re thinking: in order to use a massage bar, you need to either have someone to massage or someone massaging you, therefore defeating the purpose of this “treat yourself” Valentine’s Day gift. But you can definitely give yourself a mini leg, arm, or foot massage using this amazing bar. You can also use this as a solid body lotion. Just break a little piece of and use that all over (it makes skin sooo soft!). Because this particular bar features a liquid center (Lush’s other massage bars are solid all the way through), be careful if you do want to break off a piece. I would maybe do it over a cup or in a ziploc bag so that you can save the rest for another time (it would probably get really messy but eh, who cares?!).

Ingredients: Fresh Spring Water (Aqua) , Glycerine , Almond Oil (Prunus dulcis) , Cypress Leaf Infusion (Cupressus sempervirens) ,Brazil Nut Oil (Bertholletia Excelsa) , Vanilla Pod (Vanilla planifolia) , Fair Trade Shea Butter (Butyrospermum parkii) ,Stearic Acid , Argan Oil (Argania spinosa) , Cupuacu Butter (Theobroma Grandiflorum) , Fragrance , Triethanolamine ,Cocoa Butter (Theobroma cacao) , Goji Berry Decoction (Lycium barbarum) , Rose Absolute (Rosa damascena) , Geranium Oil (Pelargonium graveolens) , Lemon Oil (Citrus limonum) ,*Limonene , Cetearyl Alcohol , Citronellol , Coumarin , Geraniol ,Methylparaben , Propylparaben

Now the Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner is something I’ve been meaning to try for quite a while. My body gets really dry and itchy during the winter and though it’s been infinitely better this year due to Lush’s Dream Cream (amazing stuff!), I really wanted to give this one a go to see if I would experience similarly good results. It feels pretty much the same as your average hair conditioner–it feels nice and light and has a slight gel-cream-ish consistency. It feels kinda weird at first to slathering it all over yourself in the shower, but it’s not unpleasant in any way.

Ro’s has quite a beautiful warm rosy scent to it. I wish the scent clung to the skin better after rinsing because it’s soo nice. After using this once, I immediately noticed that my skin felt a lot softer and more moisturized. It did leave a slight film of hydrating oil on the skin, but it didn’t bother me as I’ve been known to slather myself in coconut oil post-shower on occasion, anyway. My skin felt smooth, silky, and supremely hydrated–and it stayed that way all day! I didn’t even feel the need to apply a separate moisturizer, which is something I always do after a shower! This stuff really works!

Ingredients: Propylene Glycol , Rapeseed Oil , Coconut Oil (Brassica napus; Cocos nucifera) , Kaolin , Water (Aqua) , Cornflour (Zea mays) ,Talc , Fragrance , Sodium Stearate , Titanium Dioxide , Rose Absolute (Rosa damascena) , Rose Oil (Rosa damascena) ,Sicilian Lemon Oil (Citrus limonum) , Rosewood Oil (Aniba rosaeodora) , Glycerine , Sodium Chloride , EDTA , Tetrasodium Etidronate , Sodium Hydroxide , Synthetic Fluorphlogopite ,Geraniol , *Citronellol , *Linalool , *Limonene , Ferric Ferrocyanide

Willow Hand and Body Soap has 2 small doves–or”love birds”–imprinted on the top. It boasts  Lush’s “A Thousand Rose Petals” scent–a mix of creamy rose, Sicilian lemon, and rosewood. The rose doesn’t overpower the lemon and vice-versa–everything melds together beautifully into a mildly sweet, refreshing scent. This soap is limited-edition and only available during February, so if you’re interested or if you try it and love it, be sure to stock up! I am seriously considering stockpiling some purely for the scent! (PS: Lush, please PLEASE release a lotion with the A Thousand Rose Petals scent–it is divine!!)

The texture of this soap is quite soft, like a hardened molded putty. If you press it with your fingers hard enough, you can indent the soap. Mixed with water, it lathers very nicely. The lather is not quite sudsy–it’s more of a creamy, clay-like lather. I had doubts that I would feel “clean” afterwards but surprisingly, I do. The kaolin clay in it does a great job of cleansing. I feel squeaky clean but not at all dried out.

Ingredients: Rose Water (Rosa centifolia) , Glycerine , Rapeseed Oil ,Coconut Oil (Brassica napus; Helianthus annuus; Cocos nucifera) , Almond Oil (Prunus dulcis) , Cocoa Butter (Theobroma cacao) , Water (Aqua) , Perfume , Rose Oil (Rosa centifolia) , Rose Absolute (Rosa damascena) , Jasmine Absolute (Jasminum grandiflorum) , Neroli Oil (Citrus amara) ,Sodium Chloride , EDTA , Tetrasodium Editronate , Benzyl Salicylate , Geraniol , Citronellol , Hydroxcitronellal , *Limonene ,*Linalool , Titanium Dioxide , Propylene Glycol , D&C Red No. 33

The Turkish Delight Shower Smoothie has the strongest scent of all the products. It’s hard to describe–it’s like a very strong powdery-soap scent perfumed with rose. It’s nice but if you take a sniff of it straight out of the pot, it’s a little overpowering. However, if you use it in a steamy shower like you are meant to, I find the heat and steam diffuse the scent and kind of just scent the whole shower/bathroom. It’s so, so lovely and relaxing, I feel like I’m a princess in my own private super-swank Russian bathhouse or something :P

The Shower Smoothie has a thick and creamy whipped consistency. It’s dense like a hair mask treatment but light and fluffy at the same time. At first, I had no clue was a shower smoothie was or how I was supposed to use it. Lush describes them as “creamy, whipped up body wash” that are “much richer than shower gels”. You can lather them up in a poof like a normal body wash or just slather it all over your body. You can also use them a bit like Ro’s Body Conditioner by slathering it on and then waiting a few minutes before washing off. The different oils (coconut, almond, rapeseed, etc.) and glycerin will help soften and moisturize the skin. I like to use it after I’ve already cleansed with my regular body soap and then use this at the very end to just lightly scent my skin and moisturize. I find it doesn’t quite make my skin as soft as the Ro’s Body Conditioner but it’s a really nice sensory treat!

Ingredients: Fair Trade Shea Butter (Butyrospermum parkii) , Organic Castor Oil (Ricinus communis) , Cupuacu Butter (Theobroma grandiflorum) , Glycerine , Flavor , Almond Oil (Prunus dulcis) ,Geraniol , *Limonene , Titanium Dioxide , Mica , D&C Red No. 7 ,Calcium Lake

And lastly, we have The Kiss Lip Gloss. The Kiss is a vegan gloss that is completely free of preservatives. It features a blend of luxurious butters like shea and cupuaçu and rich almond oil. It has a pink glossy tint and a gorgeous almond and mandarin flavor.

In the pot, The Kiss looks (and smells) so sugary sweet, I almost wanted to eat it instead of apply it! :P But I did apply it and I was very impressed with the smooth, luscious feel and delicious scent. The gloss is very rich and moisturizing but not at all heavy. It’s very dense in the pot (since it is mainly shea butter), so you do have to kind of swirl you finger around once or twice before you’re able to melt off enough product, but it applies as a very light, creamy layer.

The pink tint only registers slightly on the lips–you really have to pile it on to see much pale pink. But that, coupled with the gorgeous shimmer, is enough to give your lips a healthy glow. I also noticed that after it had worn away and I reapplied a few more times, the shimmer was becoming a bit more layered and my lips almost took on a mauvy tint. The effect was really pretty! I really do liked everything about this “gloss” (more of a balm to me). It kept my lips soft and moist for hours, has a pretty shimmer and shine, and comes in a cute tin! Plus, it could even double as an emergency balm for hydrating small areas (like elbows, hands, cuticles, etc.)!

Overall, I really loved testing this cute set from Lush–I think they did a fantastic job with the different scents and textures and with putting together a fun set that anyone–attached or otherwise–can really enjoy. It’s a nice mix of new products and old favorites and I couldn’t recommend this more. Treat yourself–or a friend–to some “Lush” time. Have a pampering spa party in lieu of Valentine’s Day. But most importantly, have fun!! :D

Your post makes me want to go to Lush so bad now :D I still have a couple of their goodies I need to finish off first though. This set seems like a very good buy, there’s a little bit of everything in it!

    • becca February 13, 2013 at 5:36 pm #

Haha it really is a good set though, isn’t it? Some of the other V-Day sets they had contained a lot of massage bars and bath bombs–which is great too–but I agree that this one has a bit of everything, which is why I think it’s great to just treat yourself with! :)

Oooh what Lush goodies do you have? I had always heard so much about Lush but never tried anything from them until a few months ago. Now I can see why everyone gets hooked–OH MAN I am in love with the scent of the Willow soap and Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner!!

  2. Meryl @ Memoiselle February 13, 2013 at 5:27 pm #

eeehhh what a pretty picture!! Love the packaging! Looks very cute!

    • becca February 13, 2013 at 5:38 pm #

I know me too–when I saw the adorable wrapped box, I was so happy and excited! Oh gosh and you should SMELL some of the products, Meryl. They’re insanely beautiful!! :D Have you ever tried anything from Lush?

      • Meryl @ Memoiselle February 15, 2013 at 5:09 am #

I only bought their cuticle cream and it smells divine! I have been eyeing on some of their soaps but I always pulled myself after that :p What’s your fave product from Lush?

        • becca February 15, 2013 at 2:21 pm #

Oooh I didn’t even know they made a cuticle cream!! I will definitely have to check it out on their site later…As for favorite Lush products, that is a hard one :P I am relatively new to the brand but so far, I am loving their Dream Cream (it’s so rich yet light and soothing!), Angels on Bare Skin, Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner, and Willow Soap. I’m sad that the soap seems to get used up so quickly (it’s so creamy that just after a use, it’s significantly smaller) but the smell of this one is CRAZY amazing and it really seems to cleanse my skin quite well! :)

  3. Larie February 13, 2013 at 5:43 pm #

I’ve only ever bought bath bombs and a dry shampoo from LUSH! Their stores overwhelm me T_T But I think their bath bombs are a fun treat.

    • becca February 13, 2013 at 5:46 pm #

You know, I hear so many good things about their bath bombs and they sound like a lot of fun, but I just don’t take baths at all, so I don’t know what I would do with one. I am seriously tempted to get that blackberry one that they carry sounds so delicious. And I guess if I have it, I will be certain to take a bath so as not to waste the bomb…ok, it’s decided. I am going to get one! Oh no…I will probably become addicted to baths after using it!! :/ haha

  4. Emi at Project Swatch February 13, 2013 at 7:20 pm #

You make everything sound so amazing! Now I want rose-scented everything :)

    • becca February 13, 2013 at 9:37 pm #

Haha thanks Emi! :P And these have to be smelled to be believed–they’re insanely gorgeous! Particularly the Willow soap and Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner. I’m so in love with those scents, I wish Lush would release body lotion versions!!

  5. Sunny February 14, 2013 at 1:13 am #

I like Tender is the Night! I might man up and go to Lush to check it out. I said manning up because the store always makes me sneeze! I have to give myself a 10-minute time limit when I actually do get through the door ;)

    • becca February 14, 2013 at 1:20 am #

Haha I can only imagine, Sunny! I have never been inside one of Lush’s stores but just based on how my room smelled after having only 5 of their items out in the open, I bet their store is a lot to take in (literally)! haha :P Still, I think their products are worth it. Have you ever tried any of their massage bars? This is my first experience. I like it and saved some of it to test on my boyfriend later today for Valentine’s Day :P I am curious about their more solid ones though, as well as the ones with the bumpy surface texture to really get a thorough massage! Plus, I feel like if I always have one lying around, I just may get more massages!! :D

  6. Joyce (bronzerbunny) February 14, 2013 at 7:59 am #

I really wanted to sniff Willow Soap, but my store ran out of it when I was there the other day! Maybe I should’ve asked, lol. I LOVE Ro’s Argan, and I’m almost out of my pot! Sad day. I’ll probably miss out on the soap though. SAD

    • becca February 14, 2013 at 2:13 pm #

Oh no–that IS sad!! :/ Willow smells soooooo good, I would recommend you go back and just check before Feb. is over! It is a really, really nice one that you do NOT want to miss out on! :D

  7. Dara February 14, 2013 at 2:49 pm #

Great review Becca! I havent tried anthing from lush yet but I want to try everything from this set even though I dont have a valentines date haha

    • becca February 14, 2013 at 3:24 pm #

LOL that’s the beauty of this set, Dara–you don’t need one!! :D I chose this set because I felt like the items in it could easily be enjoyed by yourself or with somebody. Either way, the products are AMAZING and all smell heavenly. I think it would be a nice treat to yourself to take a nice, warm bath and use the lovely Willow soap and Ro’s Body Conditioner then give yourself a mini massage with the massage bar. The gloss/balm you can, of course, use at any time. It looks like sugar frosting on your lips–so pretty! :D

      Happy Valentine’s Day :D

  8. Procrastinator February 14, 2013 at 9:12 pm #

Gah, missed Valentine’s Day by 11 minutes — happy v-day anyway! I’ love the packaging of this gift, it reminds me of old Archie comics!

    • becca February 15, 2013 at 2:02 am #

Haha thank you :D Happy Valentine’s Day to you, as well! Do anything fun?

And now that you mention it, I guess I can see the “Archie comic” in it! I used to loooooooove love love those comics. Did you? I was happy to see another Archie MAC collection but surprisingly haven’t picked up anything yet. But then, I haven’t shopped MAC in a while. Every few collections or so, there will be a blush that I like but I HATE the feeling of being rushed and I feel like with the way MAC puts out their collections and with their limited supply of certain items, they ALWAYS sell out and I just honestly don’t like to shop that way so I always end up passing :/ It’s a shame. I would definitely shop from them more if I didn’t always feel so rushed/stressed with their collections. Am I the only one that feels this way?! :P

  9. Tina @ My Highest Self February 15, 2013 at 5:08 am #

That shower smoothie must be mine! Love this set because it does not have any bath bombs as I’m more of a shower person.

    • becca February 15, 2013 at 2:17 pm #

I know, me too, Tina! I was excited to see a V-Day set that wasn’t filled with massage bars and bath bombs. I mean, I know there’s one but it’s actually kinda cool and everything else in the set is very practical and fun to use in a shower :) Have you ever tried anything from Lush before?

  10. Tracy@Beauty Reflections February 15, 2013 at 9:17 am #

I’ve tried that rose argan body conditioner and it was lovely! I haven’t been to Lush in such a long time. I’m like you-I don’t take baths so the bath bombs are something I never look at. But the rest sounds lovely!

    • becca February 15, 2013 at 2:22 pm #

Oooh you have to try it, Tracy–especially if you have very dry skin or are looking to include a fun little treat at the end of your shower. I’m not gonna lie, immediately after rinsing in the shower, it feels REALLY strange, like you have a waxy coating all over your body and I was a little icked out, but as soon as you are out of the water and toweling off, your skin feels completely normal again, albeit much more moisturized and soft :D

  11. Angela @ The Unprofessional Beauty Blog February 15, 2013 at 6:49 pm #

Even though I keep telling myself that Lush products are overpriced, somehow I’m always sucked into buying something from there. Their gift sets are always great choices.

    • becca February 15, 2013 at 10:19 pm #

LOL yeah I hear a lot of people saying that Lush is very overpriced but honestly, their products are SO much fun to use, so unique, and really do contain some great ingredients. Plus, the smell so damn amazing!! So to me it’s worth it! :) Do you have any favorite Lush products?

  12. Jenni@lifeandlensofbeauty February 16, 2013 at 11:20 pm #

That’s a wonderful LUSH gift box! Just walking into their store lifts my spirits up!

My fave LUSH product is Angels on Bare Skin cleanser :)

    • becca February 17, 2013 at 1:42 pm #

Oooh I have that too! I love it so much! As an exfoliator, it’s definitely not the best I’ve tried but it is quiet gentle and it is effective. As a cleanser–again–not the best I’ve tried but it does soak up oil really well (it just doesn’t remove makeup or anything else) and overall, it is just SO fun to use! :P Love it!

  13. Liz February 17, 2013 at 10:02 am #

Oooh, need to sniff Willow! I love the blue and white and the birds. :)

Ro’s Argan got so many great reviews that I had them test it on me at the store but I wasn’t in love with the scent. It is very nice, however!

Hope you had a lovely Valentine’s Day, my love!

    • becca February 17, 2013 at 1:48 pm #

Willow is SUCH a gorgeous sent–I really wish they’d make it permanent because not only does it cleanse well but the scent would be a really nice one for spring/summer :) I love the scent of Ro’s Argan too. I think it kinda makes your skin feel all gross and waxy once you’ve rinsed and are still in the shower but once you towel off, it feels all nice and soft and moisturized! Love that stuff! I have only used it twice now though and I’m halfway through this small pot :(

Hope you had a happy Valentine’s Day too, my darling wifey!! :D

  14. Catherine (@bcrueltyfree) February 17, 2013 at 10:25 pm #

To be honest, I haven’t really gotten into Lush. A friend in high school worked there and gave me a mask they had refrigerated… it was the only time I can remember having a real reaction to a skincare product – my skin got so red… not a pretty sight haha. But I think I may need to (cautiously) check out their products again, because I keep hearing good things. Plus, I appreciate that they’re conscious of animal testing & the environment. The scent of the Night Massage Bar sounds soo good. And the rose scent, too :)

    • becca February 17, 2013 at 11:24 pm #

Ooh no–that’s never good. Sorry to hear that! :/ Which mask was it? I haven’t tried that many products of theirs but what I have tried has been incredibly gentle and especially fun to use! The Angels on Bare skin is a super, super gentle exfoliator/cleanser that you might like and Dream Cream is supposed to be good for even the most sensitive skin types. It is one of the only creams that has kept my usually crazy-itchy winter skin happy this year. The massage bar is good and Ro’s Argan is good too! :D

  15. JoanneP @ The Convenient Beauty February 18, 2013 at 8:39 am #

OMG Lush heaven!! I should’ve pick this for my V-day gift instead of foundation. :D The only downside of Lush in my case is I need to rush using them up before they go expire.

    • becca February 18, 2013 at 3:27 pm #

Yeah true :/ I am finding that there is no problem using up my Lush bath/body products quickly though as I love them so much that I use them every night (and use a large amount each time, too :P), but the skincare that I have is kinda just sitting there. As much as I love it, I just have SO much skincare that even on a rotation, I probably won’t touch it again for another week or 2 :P haha

  16. Shivani February 19, 2013 at 3:37 pm #

Oh, gosh, I love Lush and I wanted to try out so many things from this package. I hope its still around :)

    • becca February 19, 2013 at 4:38 pm #

I know when I saw this on their site, I immediately knew I had to have it. It contains so many things I had been meaning to try for a while too! :P I think it will probably be available for a while…at least until the end of Feb…
