The Sample–Valentine’s Day Edition: IT Cosmetics Vitality Lip Flush in Je Ne Sais Quoi & Love Story (Review, Swatches & Photos)

I know there are many of you that like to go all out for Valentine’s Day, but the holiday for me usually just consists of a casual dinner out and then home for a movie and some snuggle time–not too different from any other date night, really. Because my night will be relatively low-key, I like keeping my look that way too. Since I will be eating and, most likely, getting a little bit of lip action here and there (winkwink), I prefer to go the way of a tinted balm/sheer lippie of some sort. Nothing too bright or fussy–I don’t want to have to worry about keeping my lip color intact/perfect or getting lipstick smeared all over myself or my significant other. Give me something with just enough color to add a bit of polish, a touch of shine and moisture and I’m good to go! And this is where IT Cosmetics’ Vitality Lip Flushes come in…

It Cosmetics’ Vitality Lip Flush is a 4-in-1 “natural anti-aging lipstick stain.” They are meant to take the place of your lipstick, lip balm, lip gloss, and lip stain. That’s a heck of a lot of hats to wear for just one small lippie! But I guess if you’re going to be counting on just one product to make your lips really dazzle on V-Day, better bring out the big guns, right?!

Ingredients for Je Ne Sais Quoi (click images to enlarge):

Ingredients for Love Story (click image to enlarge):

These lipsticks (we’re just going to call them that since “natural anti-aging lipstick stain” is a bit long :P) are packed with “anti-aging antioxidants including Vitamins A, C, E, Acai, Green Tea and White Tea to protect and ward off free-radicals all day long.” They are talc, paraben, sulfate, mineral oil, petrolatum, synthetic fragrance, and phthalate free, as well as hypo-allergenic and non-comedogenic.

I received Je Ne Sais Quoi and Love Story. Je Ne Said Quoi is a slightly-pink translucent balm in the tube but once applied, it changes into a sheer, cool-toned flushed petal-pink. Love Story looks more like a traditional lipstick. It’s a medium pink that looks quite neutral in the tube but swatches a bit  brighter. It also seems to steadily get brighter and brighter the longer it’s been on your lips but, like the Revlon Balm Stains I’ve tested previously, I believe it’s because of the stain underneath intensifying on your lips and showing through the layer product over it, intensifying the look overall. Both have a beautiful glossy finish.

Both lipsticks glide like butter across the lips–Je Ne Sais Quoi perhaps a bit more so than Love Story, due to it’s almost gel-like texture. Love Story feels much more like a traditional lipstick, albeit quite a moisturizing one. I do prefer the feel of Je Ne Sais Quoi, though–it’s very light and comfortable on and it feels much more like a lip balm, which, as you know, is my preferred lip product of choice. But both are undeniably amazing.

Both are also unscented…for the most part. Je Ne Sais Quoi has an ever-so-slight clove smell to it, which I am attributing to the Bitter Cherry oil, though I really have no idea. Love Story, on the other hand, has a very slight playdoh-y scent to it. I don’t like it but it does dissipate within a minute or 2, as does the clove scent of Je Ne Sais Quoi. Both are taste-free.

Both lipsticks lasted almost 2 1/2 hours on my lips before it began to wear away. However, they weren’t kidding when they called these “lip stains”–these things really do stain your lips! After most of the product and shine had worn away, the remaining stains lasted for an additional 5 1/2 hours before even beginning to fade (this was after a meal, a few snacks, and even vigorous rubbing with a napkin!)! The stain was surprisingly even and looked quite pretty! I especially liked Love Story. Though it was much darker than I’m used to wearing, I felt it flattered my warm skin tone better.

As for how well these moisturized, my lips remained perfectly plump and juicy the whole time these were on (perfect for kissing! :P) and even after most of the product had worn off, my lips still remained quite comfortable for about an hour, at which time I applied a bit of Aquaphor over the stain (but my lips need a constant coating of balm or I just feel like they will shrivel away!).

*Toya from Beauty Obsessed did a beautiful, soft Valentine’s Day look using Je Ne Sais Quoi. Check out her post here if you want to see how it looks on her lips! (fyi: on my lips, it’s MUCH brighter and more cool-toned)

Overall, I think these are great for everyone–this 4-in-1 product caters to every kind of lip product lover, whether it’s lip balm, gloss, stain, or lipstick. It does provide a lot more color than your average tinted balm, but I like it–it’s a nice change for me and a step up from my usual lack of lip color. I think this is the perfect lipstick for Valentine’s Day, or any day really! There are 4 shades in all: Je Ne Sais Quoi, Love Story, Damsel (beige-pink) and Pretty Woman (sheer berry flush). You need to check these out–they are amazing!

I only discover IT cosmetics through my shopaholic co-worker. I should re-visit Je Ne Sais Quoi which was gifted to me. :)

Ooh nice. Is it still unused or have you tried it before? I like the formula A LOT and especially love the texture of it over Love Story’s, but I do find it a bit too cool and light/bright for my taste/coloring. I think I will pass it on to my mom, who is SUPER pale and slightly cool-toned. Love Story, though, is quite pretty! I really want to try Damsel and especially Pretty Woman, now! (crazy because, as I’m sure you know, I do not usually do red lippies!! :P)

Have you tried anything else from the brand, Chris?

Love Story is an adorable shade! Definitely something I can see myself wearing. The formula looks super moisturizing!

Oh it is, otherwise I wouldn’t have given it a second thought! My lips are SO dry all. the. time. so if this stuff can keep my lips super-hydrated for hours, than I’m sure it will be great for most! :P I REALLY want Damsel and Pretty Woman now, too!

That’s so funny that you just posted about these – I have Je Ne Sais Quoi and I just used it in my V-Day look last night. I totally agree that it’s perfect for Valentine’s for just the reasons you said (which is why I used it :P). I’ve noticed that the shade intensifies over time too – the first time I wore it I didn’t know and kept reapplying here and there, to suddenly be like BAM! Holy bright lips batman!! haha

Oooh nice! I will go check out your blog now :D I bet the color of Je Ne Sais Quoi looks SO much better on you than it does on me. I love love love the feel of it but the color is not so flattering to my skin tone, I don’t think :/ And yes, it get’s BRIGHT, huh?!! :P haha

Pretty pink shades that aren’t cliche for V-day! We don’t go out either. Cook something delicious, swing by redbox, vanila ice cream and chill…

    • becca February 13, 2013 at 2:34 pm #

Haha yay! Glad we’re not the only ones that don’t go all out :P I like having a laidback night–very relaxing! I hope you have a nice Valentine’s Day with the hubs, Joanne! :D

  5. Liz February 13, 2013 at 4:09 pm #

Damn, they sound good! They’re not as pink as a lot of the staining lippies which I like. Both look great! Me wants!

    • becca February 13, 2013 at 4:59 pm #

Ahhh kisses kisses, my darling Liz!! :D

Oh and TRUST ME, they are much pinker on the lips and as the stain sets in, they get brighter and brighter. It’s like WHOA! :P

  6. Meryl @ Memoiselle February 13, 2013 at 5:29 pm #

I have never seen IT cosmetics in Singapore before. Anyway the color you swatched looks beautiful :)

    • becca February 13, 2013 at 5:40 pm #

Unfortunately, I just checked their website and I don’t think they even ship to Asia :/ BUT, if you do ever want to try anything, let me know and maybe I can help you! :)

  7. Larie February 13, 2013 at 5:44 pm #

I did not expect the balm-colored one to be so lovely! I’m also impressed by the mileage you got out of these.

    • becca February 13, 2013 at 5:48 pm #

Dude, this stuff wears like CRAZY! The stain was seriously almost completely intact for the entire day (and surprisingly even throughout) and would have surely gone to the next day even if I had not gone to remove all my makeup (the stain still didn’t come off either–I had to scrub with my lip exfoliating toothbrush!! :P). I am very impressed with these and highly recommend them!!

  8. Joyce (bronzerbunny) February 13, 2013 at 8:44 pm #

I was really curious about these after Taylor (i think?( posted about them. the light pink is quite pretty, but both shades are really pretty! haha

    • becca February 13, 2013 at 9:58 pm #

I read Taylor’s post on Je Ne Sais Quoi too :) Toya just posted a pretty FOTD on her site using it too! It’s so weird to see how the color adapts to everyones lips…on me, it’s more like how it appears on Taylor–a very bright, cool pink. On Toya, it looks very MLBB! Either way, they’re gorgeous and I love how moisturizing they are too :)

  9. Taylor February 14, 2013 at 6:50 pm #

Ooh Love Story. I remember you mentioning you had received these. I’m glad to hear you are enjoying them as well. I love the way they feel, so very moisturizing and the stain is amazing! Love story is so beautiful!

    • becca February 15, 2013 at 1:59 am #

I know they’re so nice! Do you think you will get any of the other shades? I am curious to see how pale Damsel is. I’ve heard it described as a nude-pink but I haven’t seen any swatches online and there appears to be no swatches on IT’s site :/

  10. Tracy@Beauty Reflections February 15, 2013 at 9:18 am #

WOW! These sound great! I’ll have to check them out!

    • becca February 15, 2013 at 2:23 pm #

Yay please do! They’re awesome and actually, I’ve been VERY impressed with everything I’ve tried from IT so far. Have you tried anything from the brand, Tracy??

  11. Teri February 15, 2013 at 2:21 pm #

Amazing that something as light and buttery like these can seriously stain the lips! Sounds like the perfect ‘on a date’ lipstick if you ask me ^^!

    • becca February 15, 2013 at 2:25 pm #

Oh these are CRAZY staining, Teri. I had never used a product that stained my lips so pink and lasted so long!! :P They are really nice though–I think you would love the Pretty Woman (sheer red) shade :D

  12. svetlana February 17, 2013 at 11:45 pm #

I would loooooove to get my hands on that lush set. That pretty wrapped box would cheer me upany valentines day!!!

    • becca February 17, 2013 at 11:53 pm #

Haha I think you meant to comment on the other post but still, I’m glad to hear from you ;) Before I tried Lush, I was starting to wonder if their products were overrated because I kept thinking “it’s mainly just bath/body care. What’s the big deal?!”. But then I actually TRIED some of their stuff and WOW–it’s every bit as incredible as everyone says. The mains draws for me are the scent and how unique the products are/how fun they are to use. Lush, I feel, lets you really play with your products in the best way possible and I love it! :D
