The Sample: NEW Pure+Simple Super-Vitalizing Eye Kit Review, Pictures & Giveaway!
26 Dec
««Press Sample»»

I must admit, I don’t take very good care of my eye area. It’s the most delicate skin on your face, deserving the type of careful handling that is usually reserved only for babies and fine china. Yet I still constantly manhandle the area, rubbing it vigorously when I have an itch or scrubbing furiously at stubborn makeup at the end of the night. But despite all that, I can still feel confident that I’m at least doing one good thing for it…okay, maybe two things, and both those “things” just happen to be a part of Pure+Simple’s Super-Vitalizing Eye Kit. This set, new for Holiday 2012 (I know, I know–but it’s still winter, isn’t it?!!
), contains 2 items meant to brighten and hydrate the eye area: the Collagen Elastin Eye+Lip Concentrate and the Eye Brightening Cream.
The Collagen Elastic Eye+Lip Concentrate is silky serum rich in anti-aging ingredients. It contains 5% elastin and 20% collagen to firm and hydrate the eye and lip area. Enclosed in a frosted glass rollerball, the serum is completely clear and has a thin, fluid texture. It looks like water and feels like water (but with a slightly silkier feel), so you can imagine that it’s incredibly light and refreshing. But don’t be fooled–though it bears a remarkable resemblance to the stuff that comes out of your tap, this serum packs a mean punch. It’s very hydrating and I feel like my eye area looks just a touch tighter and more refreshed after I’ve used this. I think this would be great on it’s own as a cooling, de-puffing treatment during the summer or layered under the Eye Brightening Cream during the winter (of course you could use it either way, any time of the year, too).

The Eye Brightening Cream is housed in a sturdy white ceramic jar and is meant to combat puffiness and dark circles. It contains a plethora of good-for-your-skin ingredients, like Apricot Kernel Oil (high in antioxidants and fatty acids), Borage Seed Oil (a rich source of gamma-linolenic acid and superior at hydrating chronically dry skin), Shea Butter (which has healing properties due to several fatty acids and plant sterols), and a peptide complex that “helps to improve elasticity, firmness, and lymphatic circulation.”
The cream has a medium-thick consistency but after warming it between your fingers (which you should always do with eye creams), it melts down into a thinner consistency. Despite being so rich, it absorbs surprisingly quickly and doesn’t leave behind any greasy residue. After a month of regular use, I have yet to see any milia (which I am very prone to) form around my eye area, either.

*I apologize for the picture quality! Since the sun has been MIA, I’ve been working with my makeshift lightbox and the results speak for themselves :/

Let me give you a little background on the current state of my eye area: I don’t have wrinkles (yet), but a few fine lines are starting to creep in. I also have hereditary dark circles (especially prominent under my left eye, for some reason), and tend to get dry patches around my inner eye area . I tested both these products for a month, using just the Collagen Elastin Eye+Lip Concentrate in the morning and both at night.
The rollerball works just fine, but I prefer to roll the Collagen Elastin Eye+Lip Concentrate onto my (clean) ring finger then gently pat around my eye area. I give that about 5 minutes to sink in then I apply the Eye Brightening Cream. I use a small spatula to scoop a small amount (it’s very concentrated, so you only need a little bit!) onto my ring finger, rub it between my 2 ring fingers until it warms up a bit and the consistency is more fluid, and then I pat around the eye area.

The most marked difference I saw at the end of that time was how smooth and hydrated my eye area was. As I said, I get horrible little dry patches around my inner eye area that nothing seems to be able to get rid of–super annoying! But these products really made them disappear. My skin feels so plump and moist! I did not see a reduction in the darkness under my eyes, but mine are hereditary so unfortunately, I don’t believe any eye cream could brighten those babies.
This is really a great set and would make a perfect gift to either someone you love or for yourself. Why not?! I think you deserve it
I have been so, so pleased with everything I’ve tried from Pure+Simple–it’s really a great line. They pride themselves on their natural and organic ingredients and always strive to put out the best products possible. Some people hear the world “natural” and automatically assume that the line won’t be effective (which I was guilty of prior to trying Pure+Simple), but I swear, their products are super effective and downright incredible. My skin just looks and feels good after using their products, and I feel good for making a healthier choice for my skin. Win, win, win.
Pros: eye serum has a silky texture and a lovely light, watery consistency; eye cream is rich and creamy but doesn’t feel heavy or greasy; both absorb quickly; both have no discernible scent; great ingredients; packaging protects the ingredients; rollerball works well and is easy to roll back and forth without tugging; both are intensely hydrating; skin is moisturized and smooth; doesn’t cause milia
Cons: jar packaging is a bit unsanitary but using a spatula will do the trick!

GIVEAWAY TIME!!!

Continuing with the celebration for my 1-year “blogaversary”, I have teamed up with Pure+Simple and will be giving away one Super-Hydrating Intensive Kit. The kit includes 2 products: the Collagen Elastin Plus serum (50 ml.) and the Cellular Repair Face Cream (50 ml.). The serum is packed with collagen and elastin like the Collagen Elastin Eye+Lip Concentrate that I reviewed above, but is further supplemented by honey, ceramides, and hyaluronic acid (which are heavy-hitters in the anti-aging world!). The Cellular Repair Face Cream is an antioxidant-dream. It’s full of pomegranate extract, strawberry, date, green tea, and red wine. Wow, right?! You need these products!
This anti-aging duo is valued at $128.90 CAD but retails for $95 CAD. I can’t say enough good things about this brand–they continue to blow me away with their amazingly effective products. I just know you will fall in love with them as much as I have!

I did take the products out of the box to show you but I didn’t open the products themselves

I sometimes do sleep in socks, but I end up kicking them off or something usually. I don’t really like wearing them in bed, but I don’t like freezing, either, and keeping my feet warm helps the rest of me stay warm!
I know I have the WORST circulation and my feet are ALWAYS cold, no matter how many blankets I pile on top of them. I have tried to sleep in socks but it usually doesn’t work out. In the extreme cases where it’s either freeze to death or suffer a little claustrophobia, I go with the socks but always end up kicking them off too
I just started taking care of my undereye area about a year ago, and I will say that creams make such a difference. I love what I got for Christmas, but I disliked having to stuff it all into my carry on bag. :/
Don’t they? I know there are many people who think that undereye cream/moisturizers are unnecessary but I think they are absolutely must-haves. My eyes look so crepey and dry when I don’t use them!
I’m really intrigued by the eye kit. I also get dryness in my inner eye area which really only becomes visible when I apply concealer despite using eye cream every night. I don’t get it.
I had that same problem too! What concealer are you using, Linda? I used Bobbi Brown’s Creamy Concealer for years and never had a problem with it. Then, about a year or so ago, I started experiencing extreme dryness around my eye area. No matter how much I moisturized and thought the area looked non-flaky, whenever I applied the concealer to it, it made it look like it was super patchy and dry. So I switched to Giorgio Armani’s Maestro Eraser Dark Circle Concealer. I never have that problem anymore–that stuff is SO fabulous. Pricey but worth every cent. Plus I’ve had it for several months and for all intents and purposes, I still have a full tube of product left. Only the teeniest, tiniest dab is needed for both eyes–it’s incredible! Anyway, point is, it might be the concealer you’re using so I would try a different, more fluid/hydrating formula! Good luck!
Got some great Christmas present, including some skincare products that I’ve wanting to try for a long time.

Thanks I follow you thorugh email
Thank you for following!!
I often sleep in socks. I usually put lots of moisturizer on my feet before the socks and wake up in the morning with soft feet
.
That’s always a handy trick for sure! Now if only I could keep the socks on all night
oh hey! thanks for the contest. i follow you on twitter (scarletdiva12) and would love to win this! i got a heap of gift card for xmas, which is super awesome, and a harmonica! (p.s. my fave tv show is buffy and y’all should get on that!)
Those are some really nice gifts, Lisa! Do you know what you want to use your gift cards on yet?
I totally destroy my eye area. Rubbing and poking. Turning fifty next year. Too late ?
Haha it’s never too late, Anita!!
But yeah, I have been trying for a while to break the habit of rubbing my eye really hard, etc. but it’s soooo hard!!
I receivec Lisa Hoffman jewelry for Christmas. My husband is awsome.
Awesome, indeed–I *love* Mara Hoffman!! You lucky, lucky girl!
I use some of the Pure & Simple products already and LOOOOVVVVEEE them but I haven’t tried the eye products, might have to now after your reviews
Aren’t their products the best?!! Which products do you use, Lisa? I currently use the clay mask, Lactic Acid 5%, Vanilla Cleansing Powder, and these 2 eye products. Blown away by EVERYTHING I try!!
I got a sock monkey! That made my day! Big kid at heart here! lol
LOL yaaaaay!!
I love Pure + Simple products – I was also a “natural product” skeptic (natural doesn’t mean gentle or pure or anything definitive) until I tried their products & facials. I am now officially reformed and a P+S fan. I am treating myself to a facial on Sunday to start 2013 off with my best face forward for a terrific year to come.
Oooh do you live near a Pure + Simple location, Nadine? You’re SO lucky!! I would give anything to go to a salon and get a facial from them–I hear they’re *awsesome*!!
My christmas this year isnt that merry at all..The reason is I’ve lose the guy that I truly love, due to some unforeseen circumstances..sigh…We’ve been parted for few years now, and missed spending time together during christmas, but I guess this year’s own marked the year we finally closed our chapter.
Nevertheless, I’m still hoping that we could be together again..Someday, I pray..I may have made some mistakes and offended him, but I’ve learned my lesson…I still want him back, and I still love him..
oh, I’ve followed you on twitter, email and fb…

Wow I’m so sorry to hear that, Tericia. I know it sees like really cliché advice, but honestly if it’s meant to be, it will work itself out. Maybe all you guys need is a little time apart to gain some perspective…distance makes the heart grow fonder and all that, you know? Good luck, hon! I hope it all works out!
thanks for the giveaway. shared it for you on strictly canadian coupons and contests.
my xmas was pretty boring lol
Thanks for doing that, Elaine!!
I had a great Christmas! Best gift watching the excitement of my children opening their gifts
Awww, so sweet! I know, I completely forgot about my presents this year because I was too busy watching the faces of my family members opening their own presents
Always so fulfilling!
i liked your facebook page
and following on twitter sccc5
No gifts for me except by default since my DH bought himself an iPhone5 right after he ordered a new case for his old iPhone. So I got the new case at least.
I’m totally addicted to eye cream so this giveaway really interests me!!
Follow on Twitter as MarciaEF, on facebook as Marcia Friedman. Sorry for two posts about it.
Haha that’s okay, Marcia!!
And I LOVE eye creams too. I had never used an eye serum before though, so this one was new to me. I really love the lightness though and LOVE the effects I get when layering both. SUCH a fabulous set!!
10 people crammed into my tiny house, scattered wrapping paper galore, basement looks like a tornado went through it, but I wouldn’t change it for the world! I had a wonderful Christmas!
Isn’t that always the best? It can get stressful setting everything up and cooking and cleaning, etc. but it’s ALWAYS worth it in the end
So glad you enjoyed your holidays!
I actually felt like I got to celebrate Christmas this year (i.e. no working!) and so that was the best Christmas present. I had time to make Christmas cookies, watch Christmas movies and spend time with my family. Nothing better, but I have to admit that I love the 600 thread count sheets that I got from my parents! Now I really feel old since that was the gift that I’m most excited about.
**I follow you by email and liked your facebook page via Becca Carr**
Wow I need to get me some of THOSE sheets–mine are so ratty at the moment!!
And I’m sure I would sleep better too! Nice present
Thanks for reading and following, Becca!
Followed on twitter, FB, and email.

Breaking Bad is the best tv show!
Oh Breaking Bad is SUCH an amazing show–so sad it’s ending though
Do you watch anything else like Walking Dead or Sons of Anarchy or Dexter or Homeland or Nikita (I’m such a show-whore
)?
Thanks for reading and following, LC!
My birthday coming up in 3 days..:-) This one I will be 51, this would be some great gifts to help keep my skin yourthful..:-)
Happy early birthday, Claudette! I am crossing my fingers for you!!
Yay! thanks for the giveaway Becca
I have been watching the Mob Doctor– really enjoying it. It’s about a doctor who can’t get away from her upbringing in the mob and her two lead love interests are, well, yummy. Highly recommend. I’ll be watching it until Downton Abbey starts again!!!
You know, I haven’t heard about Mob Doctor but that’s the second time I heard about it today. I better check this out!! And I’ve heard good things about Downtown Abbey but not sure what that’s about either, so I will add these two to my must-see list!! Thanks for the recs, Christine!! <3
Awesome giveaway, beloved Becca! I’m feeling really lazy these days– I’m tired from work and want to stay on vacation and sleep in for a few more weeks!!! I hope that you have a really Happy New Year!!
Thanks Helen!! I know, I’m so sad it’s all over. The Christmas tree has to come down but I REALLY don’t want to. It’s too official!!
You have an amazing New Year too, my dear friend!! <3
I don’t think I will get lucky enough to win again but I guess it’s worth a shot! To be honest, I don’t take a very good care of my eyes area either…
I got a lot of good things for Christmas. I think my favorite gift is a Chanel lose powder that I have really really wanted and I absolutely love it!
Oooh nice gift! I have been curious about Chanel’s loose powders for a while–I always hear such good things! I will definitely try it out next time I’m at a counter.
Definitely, it’s amazing. I got it after Karen from Make Up and Beauty Blog raved about t and she was right!
Ahhh I need to hurry up and use up all my Make Up For Ever HD powder–there are so many other setting powders I am dying to try!!
Had such a fabulous christmas with my baby girls at home
I’m so happy to hear that, Donna! Hope you have a happy New Year, too!!
I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one who sleeps in socks sometimes lol I even have some tick ones for colder weather and they have been my sleeping socks for a couple of years now!
Thank you for the giveaway, those sound like absolutely amazing products and exactly what I need now that I’m getting a little older…

I hope you have a great New Year!! xx
Well I do if it’s extremely cold but I always end up kicking them off because generally, my feet do NOT enjoy feeling trapped at night
Thank you, Ruth–happy New Year!!
Light of my life, you do write the most thorough reviews ever.
I still haven’t tried Pure + Simple — such a bad Canadian that I am! I’m one of those people guilty of not treating eye areas, but I have no issues around the eyes aside from being being almost as blind as a bat. 34 and just a few expression lines is all. Oily skinned gals FTW.
Hahaha thanks Liz dearie!! Too long though, maybe?? I know everyone has a “thing” and I thought my “thing” could be really thorough reviews but I’m not sure if ppl really appreciate all that reading
Any advice, my love?
And YES–I KNEW that oily skin would pay off SOMEHOW!!
Wouldn’t be here if we didn’t like it! I just grab a drink and get super comfortable in my chair.
Hahahaaa yes!! Awesome, I love my wifey
My feet get hot and dry if I sleep in socks. It actually wakes me up!
I know–my feet get REALLY hot too and also my toes feel trapped
Even without socks, I’ll usually kick my feet out from under the covers at night because I like them to feel freeeeeee!!!
Hope you have a happy New Year, Vanessa! Thanks for reading!
Found you through Beauty Obsessed’s “Best of” post and enjoyed your posts so I’m now a follower
My christmas was pretty nifty as we adopted a puppy (our 4th dog) so it’s been hectic! I was also cursed with some unfortunate genes so anything to help with the saggy luggage I’m developing would be awesome! Hope you had an awesome christmas and a spiffy new year
Bloglovin, facebook and twitter follower now as well (all ShannoninBC)

Aww sweet Toya–I just love her blog, don’t you?!
I’m so glad you found me and that you enjoy the blog–that makes me so happy to hear!!
Have a very happy New Year, Shannon!
I received a new Paderno coffee maker!
What a nice present! I stopped drinking coffee a while ago (not entirely, just daily) but I still do love my tea and recently discovered a delicious jasmine green tea soy latte at Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf so I’m just DYING to get a milk frother so I can start making my own! A lot cheaper than a coffee maker, so hopefully I’ll get around to it soon! (if I stop buying so much makeup
)
Thanks for reading, Carol–Happy New Year!
The eye cream sounds wonderful and would help me with my New Years resolution of looking and feeling younger, 2012 was a rough year for me, spent many days crying, hence making me look very haggard. I am now a fan and following you on facebook and twitter

Christmas is my favorite holiday, especially when we burn the ham, or the turkey isn’t cooked ( 2 years in a row), this year everyone was making jokes before they were coming over – should we bring Mc Donald, TV Dinner, should we eat before we come over, little did they know that my grandmother cooked everything prior and let us take all the credit, people were shocked, Thanks grandma your the best.
LOL that’s so sweet of your grandma! I’m glad you had a nice holiday–hope you have a very happy New Year, as well! Thanks for reading!

I’m so glad to hear that! I had a really nice, relaxing New Year myself–just went out to dinner then came home and watched shows until the ball dropped. Made a toast with some sparkling wine (:P) then face mask and off to bed!
I couldn’t have asked for a better night!
Thanks for taking the time to comment, Julie!!
Wow such a fun giveaway! So happy that I had all my aunts, uncles and cousins with me on the first day of the New Year. I love being surrounded by so much love and happiness.
Happy New Year!
Aw how fun! I really wish I could celebrate with all my extended family as well, but I have SUCH a large family that is scattered between California and Florida that it’s near impossible to get us all together at once :/
Happy New Year, Linda!
My grandson gave me a soft fluffy bathrobe that I love. Thanks for the chance to win!
Oooh what a nice gift! I really need a new bathrobe–one that is large, fluffy, and warm!! Getting out of the shower during the cold winter season has been pure misery

Thanks for the giveaway! We got some snow today which made me super excited.
That is exciting!! I’ve only been in snow once at a ski resort but I’ve never been somewhere where it was actually snowing at the time–it’s one of my goals for 2013!!
Thanks for reading, Ann!
