MIA again…

20 Aug

She did her own hair that day. No really. Doesn't it look like a mop on top of her head?! :P

…sorry! I know I’ve been gone for several days, but I’ve been soooooo busy–you would not believe! I’m exhausted, but it’s been fun. My sister and cousin were both visiting, so we had to take care of some last minute wedding preparations and do her bachelorette hang-out this weekend. On Saturday, we had a girly day filled with makeup test-runs and a mani/pedi at an adorable little nail salon. After going back and forth for a while, I went with Zoya’s Jo (from the Twist Collection) on my toes and Zuza (from the Surf Collection) for my nails. Both are available at zoya.com. I must say, I am so in love with both shades that I chose, though I am not so sure about the formula itself. This was my first experience with Zoya polishes and while they seemed to go on quite smoothly (though I can’t be sure since I didn’t personally apply them) and were both nearly opaque in one coat, the wear is kinda iffy. I’ve had my polish on for about 35 hours now and already I have minor little chips all over the tips of my nails. Plus, the top coat the technician used on me was crap…but anyway, I just love love love the shades I chose–especially Jo. I kinda wish I had chosen that one for my fingers instead because I just love it so much. I am definitely going to have to grab a bottle of that–it’s the most lovely shade of cornflower blue ever and while I’ve been wearing a lot of blue lately (Essie’s Boxer Shorts, Lapiz of Luxury, and Bikini So Teeny have been staples on my nails lately), I don’t own anything like Jo.

After nails, we got all dolled up and went to a nice, low-key dinner at Roy’s Hawaiian Fusion Cuisine (the food was to-die-for!). After that, we went downtown to a dessert bar and hung out for a while. It was a long day but it was so fun! Anyway, I just wanted to give you guys a brief update on what I’ve been up to and why I haven’t been making the rounds and commenting on all your blogs as well as posting on my own. I’ll have one up tomorrow or the next day at the latest, I swear. I hope you all had a fabulous weekend! Did you do anything exciting??

PS: did any see the new trailer for season 7 of Dexter? Ooooohmygosh it looks so darn juicy. Can’t wait! Oh, and Sons of Anarchy comes back Sept. 11th too–so yay!! :D

Aww I like your puppy! True she was having a bit of a bad hair day in that pic though LOL

It was SO warm here this weekend that it was impossible to stay in the house. Dr and I drove around for a walk by the river and dip in the lake. Now it’s finally cooling down (thank GOD) so I have to get back to cleaning my house and playing with makeup LOL

Haha bad hair day indeed :P

Ooh I’m so jealous of you–a walk by the river and dip in the lake sounds so fun and relaxing and refreshing! I don’t believe I’ve gone swimming ONCE since summer started. It’ll be over VERY soon (classes start next week for me! :/) so I better get cracking on that. I need to at LEAST stop by the pool, if not the beach

Sounds like you had a lot of fun! I love girl hang outs. Oh and makeup test run, doll up, good food and chill out sound awesome. I just spent the weekend for cleaning up and gardening. blah. Anyway, can’t wait for your next post and have a great week ahead. xxx

It was definitely a lot of fun and I’m happy that I finally got to try something from Zoya–I hear so much about the brand but since it’s not easily available to me in-stores (the closest Ulta that carries Zoya is probably about 25 minutes away, and I’m WAY too lazy to drive that far for nail polish :P). Have you tried anything from Zoya before?

Thanks for stopping by Joanne–I hope you have a fantastic week as well! :D

Aw your dog is so adorable with her hair all mussed up like that!

    • becca August 21, 2012 at 9:17 pm #

Haha thanks Trishie! She really likes to do her hair like that, too! If I try to smooth it down, she take her paws and brushes it forward like that again–she’s too funny :P

the baby did her own hair huh? wow! what a statement she makes. such a rebel. ;P i also recently been introduced to zoya nail polishes. i must admit, i been pretty obsessed with nail polishes of all sorts lately. for summer i think it totally sexy to sport at least TWO colors! hope you summer is going lovely!

    • becca August 21, 2012 at 9:19 pm #

Lol–yes she is DEF a rebel when it comes to her hair. Silly little thing…

And I LOVE nail polish too, Svetlana–it always cheers me up to wear brights and neons but I just realized the other day that my whole collection is made up of brights and I really need some neutrals and soft pinks in my life :P What have some of your favorite shades for summer been?

  5. Joyce August 21, 2012 at 5:57 am #

my boyfriend your dog is adorable and hilarious lol. i feel like i had that experience with zoya polishes, but i’m not sure if that was a fluke! I do nails so rarely that i feel like i use only a few shades a year!

    • becca August 21, 2012 at 9:21 pm #

She says thank you. She is a total ham and totally knows she is way cute :P

I know, I was really disappointed with Zoya–EVERYONE is always talking about how great a brand it is. I must say, they seem to always come out with such gorgeous, bright, unique shades, but the wear leaves a little something to be desired…

What a fantastic hairdo! I wish I could wake up looking that good :P

    • becca August 21, 2012 at 9:19 pm #

Haha don’t we all Dovey?! :P

  7. Toya August 21, 2012 at 4:13 pm #

Yes! I can’t wait till Dexter is back on :D I have the trailer but I don’t want to watch it, I want to be totally in the dark about it all – I love surprizes lol.

As for Zoya – I do often love the colors but some of the formulas are hit and miss for me. I have two or three shades that are fantastic, and then a few that are just so-so – and Arizona from the summer collection was atrocious :( I bet the shades both looked absolutely amazing on you though! I’m glad you’re having fun!

    • becca August 21, 2012 at 9:23 pm #

Haha–then you have more willpower than I do. I could not stop myself from watching the trailer if I tried. :P

I agree about Zoya. I see a lot of reviews for Zoya and I always love the colors (I am obsessed with really bright shades), but I was really let down by the formula. Ah well, I guess as long as I have my Seche Vite, it’s ok. I went home and after I noticed the chipping, I immediately put a coat on. It seems to be fine now

  8. Larie August 22, 2012 at 4:46 pm #

Some Zoya colors are really good and some not so much, though I usually don’t have a huge problem with tip wear. I’d say it’s probably the top coat – when I use crappy top coats, it ruins all of my polishes :(

    • becca August 23, 2012 at 6:35 am #

Yeah I bet you’re right. Even after I applied a coat of Seche Vite to try and save my manicure, I got a huge chip on my finger today :/ I guess I didn’t apply it soon enough. I could tell right off the bat that the top coat she used was pretty crappy though. Oy…

Well seeing as this was last week I’m quite late to the party LOL. But right now it is the weekend, and I am winding down with Cupcake Wars and dried green mangoes (SO GOOD). I’ve always wanted to go to Roy’s, what did you guys order? I keep hearing that their food is amazing. Oh, and I definitely see the mop resemblance. But it’s a very chic mop :P Also, Jo looks gorgeous!! I’ve had the same issue with Zoya polishes, they sort of peel off my nails (of course last time I wore Zoya I was also wearing Seche…which only exacerbates things).

    • becca August 26, 2012 at 10:09 pm #

      Oooh, I LOVE dried green mangoes–jealous! :D

Roy’s was SOOO amazing–definitely going back there sometime soon. I had the seafood sampler I believe. It came with a mini lobster tail, scallop, shrimp, and fish (can’t remember what kind) on a bed of macadamia risotto–which was pure deliciousness! You HAVE to go there MM! Ooh, and they had the most amazing mango mojito–it was hands down the best mixed drink I’ve EVER tasted! Damn, now I really want one…:P

  10. Lola August 28, 2012 at 3:59 am #

OMG– she’s gorgeous!! What a sweet little face!! Her hair=AWESOME!!!!

    • becca August 28, 2012 at 5:44 am #

Haha thanks Lola! and yes, her I love it when her hair is all mussed up like this. I will try to smooth it down just to play with her and she’ll immediately go and stick her head on a towel (she loves towels so I have about 10 of them scattered throughout the house so she can play with them/lay on them) and ruffle it back up :P
