I have been totally lusting after the Hourglass Visionaire Eye Shadow Duo in Dune ever since a.) seeing it on Karen at Makeup and Beauty Blog, and b.) trying out Suede and falling. in. love. Yes, it was truly love by association. I won’t go into too much depth on this shadow since I very recently reviewed Suede (click here to see the review). This post is mainly to just show you the swatches of Dune and to affirm my love for Hourglass’ eye shadow formula. It’s truly remarkable stuff.
Dune is a lovely duo comprised of a shimmering golden-champagne-y-cream (yes, that’s my description and I’m sticking to it!), and a blackened-olive with bronze and green shimmer. Please note that the green shade does look a lot more green in the pan then it does on the skin–so if you are able to, I suggest having a swatch before purchasing. These 2 shades go well together and are undeniably beautiful. Put in just a little effort and you’re sure to find dupes (or close enough) of both of these shades somewhere, but why would you want to?! The main draw here is the sinfully luxurious texture. One swatch and you’ll understand why people go gaga over these.
Like Suede, Dune is perfectly buttery-soft and so smooth and easy to apply. It blends like nobody’s business! Though they are very rich in color, it’s not so pigmented that it can be hard to work with and/or blend out. On the contrary, I can just throw these on my lids with wild abandon because I’m confidant that if it looks too dark or I’ve applied too much, I can blend it out seamlessly with just a few passes of my brush. Simple and stress-free–these shadows are literally foolproof! Because the texture is so unbelievably soft, it is to be expected that it does kick up a bit of powder in the pan. Nothing out of the ordinary though.
Without a primer, Dune lasted an impressive (for my oily lids) hour and a half. With a primer, there was no stopping this duo from morning to night. My eyeshadow looked just as fresh and vibrant and pretty at 1 o’clock in the morning as it did when I applied it at noon. Now that is truly impressive by anyone’s standards! Oh, and just so you know–you can apply these wet or dry. Applying them wet will surely help with the wear time if you choose to forgo primer.
*please note: I know that the blackened-olive shade looks more black than anything in swatches but actually, on the eyes, that lovely hint of green really does come through. So just in case you were worried this duo would make it look like you have 2 nasty black eyes, it won’t.
As I’ve said before, these Hourglass duos are a bit pricey–but are truly worth it, in my opinion. They’re silky and soft, super blendable, pigmented, and suit a wide variety of skin tones. Plus they contain a crapload of product (0.2 oz.–whereas Nars Duos contain 0.14 oz. and Chanel’s Ombres Contraste duo contains a sad 0.09 oz.), so you are very much so getting your money’s worth. In short, the Visionaire duos are truly in a class of their own! Hourglass releases shades that are effortlessly cool and suit just about everyone. If you’re in the market for a beautiful, wearable, and amazingly high quality eyeshadow duo, try them out. You won’t be sorry!
Pros: has a formula that is literally soft as silk, smooth as butter, and blends like a dream; though pricey, these come with quite a bit of product; super pigmented; come in flattering and perfectly coordinating shades; long-wearing; accompanying brush is actually soft and usable; swivel packaging is well-made
Cons: because the shadows are so soft, they kick up a little dust in the pan
