I just about swooned when I saw the new pictures of Chanel’s Limited Edition Las Vegas de Chanel collection. It’s so beautiful! Look at that breathtaking compact embossed with the Chanel logo and the stars from the “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas!” sign. But wait…does this look kind of familiar? If so, it’s because very recently, I featured a review on a similar product: Laura Mercier’s Shimmer Bloc in Peach Mosaic. It, too, is beautiful. Gorgeous, really. And they both feature variations of shimmering peach, gold, and bronze in a lovely, black compact. They both claim to add a luminous radiance and warmth to the skin and both can be used on the eyes and cheeks. Which leads me to my dilemma. As soon as I laid eyes on this compact, I knew I had to have it for realz. But, if it’s so similar to the Shimmerbloc-do I really need both? Well, technically no…but it’s Chanel! And it’s pretty! Isn’t that reason enough? This collection is exclusive to the Chanel boutique within the Bellagio (call 765-5505 if you’re interested) -or-it’s available online at chanel.com. Here’s a quick rundown of the collection:
1. Chanel Lucky Stripes Iridescent Powder for Eyes and Cheeks ($95)-Per Chanel’s site, the highlighting powder “can be applied on [its] own to sculpt the face or blended together to achieve an overall warmth and radiance. A beveled sculpting brush offers precise application”
2. Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Brilliant ($32.50): “The iconic Chanel lipshine debuts in an exclusive new shade — a brilliant, sheer gold inspired by the opulence of a gilded city in the desert. This high-rolling hue is part of the limited-edition LAS VEGAS DE CHANEL Collection.”
3. Chanel Le Vernis Nail Colour in Gold Fingers ($28): “A stroke of luck for the fingertips, this dazzling new semi-sheer, gilded lacquer glides over nails to create a playful finish. Part of the limited-edition LAS VEGAS DE CHANEL Collection.”
4. Chanel Le Crayon Lèvres Precision Lip Definer in Vegas Gold ($29): “Create the show-stopping effect of fuller lips by applying a golden line to the center of the upper lip and adding a touch of light. Part of the limited-edition LAS VEGAS DE CHANEL Collection.”
So, if you’re a Chanel-enthusiast, makeup collector, or just plain dazzled by the new Lucky Stripes compact–I say go for it! It’s limited edition and I’m sure it will be every bit as breathtaking on as it looks in the picture. But, if $95 is a little steep to you for a highlighting powder, you might want to check out Laura Mercier’s Shimmer Bloc in Peach Mosaic. In my opinion, the 2 compacts are quite similar (for swatches of Peach Mosaic, click here. Click here for Blushing Noir’s swatches of the Lucky Stripes powder if you want to compare), though Chanel’s is more orange.
